Bob Chapek

How do you suggest Disney controls the massive crowds overwhelming the parks?

One option would be building a 5th gate in FL and/or 3rd in CA. You can deal with capacity problems by building more capacity instead of using price to lower demand. It is a longer term solution so likely would be done in conjunction with what they are now but it is the better long term solution in my opinion.

It is getting about time where they will need to do that. They have a little more room in th WDW parks to add, but eventually they will need that 5th gate. Anaheim is more problematic, though they have some plans to expand both parks westward - I am not sure how that is going to work out though.

I don't follow DL nearly as well as WDW, I don't much at all, but I was under the impression that they were building parking garages in order to re-claim surface lots for a new gate or current park expansion. I could be wrong on that one.

Latest plans looked like this where they would expand into the parking areas and hotel grounds. Each side is an extention of DL and CA respoectively, not a new park. Haven't heard much rumbling about it in a while though.

No... they'd just deduct points. It's happened to me a few times. Don't worry about it.

But it sounds like you wouldn't take the advice of a Bus Driver.... which in my world -I value the word of a lower level employee as much as an executive. And probably the bus driver MORE!

My response was an answer to.. "What do you think of Chapek", not the bus drivers.

I feel for all the cast members for what Chapek is doing. Chapek has cheapened the Disney Park experience to a Six Flags experience and the front line cast members are the ones hearing it the parks. We witnessed this in July and again last week. He can hide behind a special invite media experience the day before October 1st after that mess they call Enchantment, but is too much of a weasel to walk out in front of the castle on October 1st.
He can blame the pandemic, but compare Disney's Boo Bash to Universal Horror nights and tell me if Disney is giving us our money's worth.. Or experience we are all overpaying for.

Fair. But he's brand new at the job. That is stuff that could improve as he grows into the job. Not saying it will, but it's fairly typical of a new CEO.

Regarding the cutbacks, I'm not condemning him or defending him at this point- I'd like to get as much as even a couple of years removed from Covid before we really judge that one. He entered at a time when none of the parks globally had been closed for any more than a single day at a time and suddenly, they were all closed simultaneously for months. It's just impossible for us to judge what that meant.

He has a reputation for being data-driven and not customer-driven. I'm not going to rush to judgement on the guy -I don't know that it was his doing, but they handled Covid as well as any Company possibly could. The problem is the Parks are probably one of the smallest segments of the business -creative is a HUGE when you encompass all the different units that rely on them. If they aren't happy, and word is they aren't, that could be a very bad sign for customers who enjoy the Brand. Basically back to the pre-Eisner days of gloom. Iger carried himself with an air of confidence but also concern -I don't see that in Chapek at all ...he could use a better communications person in my opinion

Agreed. Funny because I just mentioned that he needs a new communications specialist/publicist in my recent post. His image is near rock-bottom...

As a customer, I don’t care for him because of course I don’t like any price hike or money grab!

However, the last two years have been unprecedented and he’s been left in a hard spot. I think in 10 more years we’ll be able to judge him more fairly.
Not sure the brand survive 10 more years of this guy.

Nearly 60,000 people have signed a petition on change dot org wanting him fired. I agree with them. Bob Paycheck has to go! He has no idea how to run a high quality consumer based company. He only cares about money. His way of doing things may have been the right way to navigate through this pandemic but continuing forward doing the same things that saved the company during the pandemic, will only destroy the brand outside of the pandemic. Not even Iger likes him anymore. We need a leader that values creativity, imagination, people, and profits. Chapek ONLY values profits. He certainly doesn't value passholders. Magic Kingdom may have been the most visited theme park but Disney still lost money. Universal on the other hand just had it's most profitable quarter EVER! I'm a decade long Platinum passholder at WDW and a relatively new Universal passholder. But if I had to choose between the two right now, I'd drop Disney for Universal without hesitation. Universal has been a far superior experience since the start of the pandemic. It's way more like the pre-pandemic Disney than Disney is right now. Universal has more magic, more fun, more characters, and parades. It's cleaner and safer and even the Team members are much happier there because they feel valued. I'm pretty sure even the spirit of Walt moved over to Universal when Chapek took over. Walt created a world of magic where impossible things happen every day and dreams come true. Chapek is too cheap to provide magic. In Chapek's Disney, you have to bring your own magic. It's the new theme of Disney's 50th Anniversary Fireworks show Enchantment. "You are the magic." Not Disney. So don't expect to find magic at Disney unless you're providing it yourself.

He wouldn't be the first CEO to over-rely on data. Data IS important and every company needs to have a handle around it but it can't be the only driver.

Chapek should listen to Iger’s advice at their last retreat- don’t run the company on data, it’s creativity which makes it what it is.

I tend to go for Halloween, not Christmas. But I wouldn't be shocked. And I typically go to DL, not WDW.
I definitely agree on Cali We prefer It over Florida but not the easiest option for our family…DVC and annual passes. We had DVC points that needed to be used and have visited multiple times since last fall. We expected issues due to COVID but it’s worseinstead of better. Many excuses and some are likely legit. Although I believe it tends to be the new rule instead of the exception. It’s going in the wrong direction.

I hope y’all have a great trip.

ITA but he is only concerned witj the beans IMO. Too many people with reduced staff, fewer experiences, less of pretty much everything at a higher price. Not good…

It's fine as long as people pay. When they stop paying, then this becomes a problem.
