We have reservations here and are on the dining plan. It seemed like it would not be a good use of credit though as all sides are extra. The new DP policy states that you can trade your dessert(which I never eat) for a side item or non alcoholic drink. This should apply at the boathouse.....correct? If so, it will be a much better use of dining credit. What does everyone think? Also please post if you have experience in the future, the new rules start this week.

New Rules are still "rumored", not officially announced although widely publicized

Actually, some of the rules went live yesterday and DIS Dining says the rest are in place by June 4.

I believe the new "rumored" policy states:
At a counter service meal you can trade your dessert for a non alcoholic drink or side item.
At a table service meal you can trade your dessert for a cup of soup, a side salad, or a fruit plate where available.
So at any table service restaurant you CANT get a SIDE item only a cup of soup , a side salad or fruit plate for your dessert.

Yep, at quick service you can trade your dessert for any side. At table service you can trade it only for salad, soup or fruit plate.

About half those rules are in effect now, the rest will be in effect by the end of the week.

We ate at the Boathouse last week. Keep in mind that some items do come with a side, so you may not need to worry. Also, the price for the sides are for the table, so you can always pay OOP. We had the stuffed lobster which came with asparagus, and a scallop dish that had amazing jalapeno and cheese grits.

Agreed with kaybird, the sides are for the table and large sizes, I'm not sure they would allow that swap. However, it's absolutely the best restaurant on property. Food and service as good as I've ever had -anywhere.
