I have an opportunity to stay at the Boardwalk Villas on our next trip to WDW. I, also, rent a scooter while at WDW. Any ideas if I should make any specific room requests? Does it help to be near the (only) elevator? Thank you.
I usually request a first floor room and have always gotten it. I do this because I have a personal scooter and obviously can't go down the stairs with it. If I get a room down at the end of the very long hallway and we aren't on the first floor than my DH is stuck having to go all the way back to the elevator with me to get down to the first floor when he could otherwise have taken the stairs. With a first floor room this is not an issue.
My DD (26) who uses a manual wheelchair and I stayed in an ADA studio room on the first level in the DVC side ... it was on the first floor right across from the clown pool.
We were pleased once maintenance came in and attended to a few things.
It was also less than a hundred feet from the laundry room which was great. I posted done more details on the room with pics on my blog if interested:
Thank you both for your replies. I do not need a handicapped room and really hate to take one away from someone who really needs one like Dan's daughter. Also, I am not sure if I want a first floor room in case little critters come in . I'm thinking of requesting a room near the elevator for mobility concerns. We have booked a garden/pool view room. Time will tell .
Dan, I did enjoy reading your blog reports about the Boardwalk. We had a handicapped room at OKW last year (last minute Easter stay and only for two nights), and I, too, wondered about where one puts shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, etc.
