Boardwalk Villas question please

So had never stayed at Boardwalk and over the past few years have fallen in love with the resort. I have a small contract at Bay Lake Tower that I use for sleep around points and never stayed at Bay Lake. My question, is it worth the expense to sell my Bay Lake points and buy Boardwalk points? On resale it would probably be a break even. We usually travel off season and during the week. Is the Boardwalk difficult to get at 7 months, studios? should I go thru the expense to sell my BLT points and buy Boardwalk for the extra few months advantage?

It would probably be a break even in terms of up front costs but BLT also has lower dues and 18 years more on the contract.

I would keep BLT since you are traveling off season unless you were dead set on standard rooms you should be able to snag a pool/garden view studio.

Agreed. I was able to get a garden/pool view at 7 months for our September trip. It was unplanned as I was booking a trip with our first resale contract the day my points posted and there it was so I snagged it. I imagine with some planning OP could get what they need/desire.

IMO, selling BLT for BWV is not worth it - BLT has so many more years left.

Not exactly sure what you mean by "off season". In recent years, off season has changed. In addition, DVC off season is not the same as regular hotel off season. The lowest DVC points per night months are "off season" and these are the toughest to get.

In my experience, DVC off season now is April, July, and August.

BWV Standard View Studios are tough to get at 11 months.

I like this chart, which shows relative booking difficulty of various Studios.

For the toughest rooms, you typically have to get lucky with a cancellation.

You could just add-on at BWV. I own at both.

When you are thinking about whether you will break even if you sell at one resort and buy at another resort, don't forget about the commissions when you sell. They can be close to 10%. Also the seller pays a $150 estoppel fee.

BWV Standard View one-bedrooms are tough to get in the Fall.

BWV and BCV are both very popular for peak Food & Wine Festival.

On our big trip we stay at our home resort for an extended time. We would be doing BWV for 3-4 night trips during the week Monday thru Friday. Thanks for all the advice. We have enough points so if we have to do garden view we can for those few days. We have been lucky and able to get availability for our next few trips. I was just wondering if you experts thought financially it was worth it and the extra 4 months was worth it. I hadn’t thought about commission, other fees involve, dues etc.

As a BWV owner I can confirm standard view will be very difficult, even at 11 months you must be online the moment reservations open. There are a few times of the year you may luck out, but not many. I walk my reservation as soon as my first day is available. We typically have good luck, as we book 1 bedroom. First to go are studios and 2-bedroom. i have checked resort availability for studios for different times of the year and it appears all resorts have very limited studio inventory at 7 months except OKW and SS. been a member since 1997….we love BW.

Thanks. We just returned home from a 5 night stay at Boardwalk Inn. The new rooms are beautiful! Been going to Disney for over 20 years and never wanted to stay at Boardwalk. Ended up staying there as there was a deal and it was available and we fell in love. Just walking back at night there is so much going on. People performing, families sitting on the lawn watching a movie after a marshmallow roast, it’s classic Disney at its best. And for some reason something good always happens to us there it’s our lucky resort LOL. I’m the Disney fanatic and in the middle of this trip my wife said to me “I think we need points here” trust me I’m scouring the sites now but not much Boardwalk for sale either. Thanks for the insight
