For BWV fans, one of the treasures of the lobby is the model of an "elephant hotel" above the fireplace. The last of these original "elephants", "Lucy" is located in Margate, NJ. I'm pleased to tell everyone that Lucy made it thru hurricane Sandy just fine, even though she stands only yards from the open ocean. Here is the link to our local tv station and a picture. In all of the terrible news, this was a true bright spot.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Elephant, here is a link;

I'll have to check for the picture of Lucy next time I visit BWV. I love love love architecture like this. We drove all the way to Cottonwood Idaho one year to stay at the Dog Bark Park Inn, kind of similar to Lucy:

I totally have to go stay in Lucy now, she is so cool. Thanks for sharing!

Seems a little too soon to be posting this type of stuff..

I've been glued to Reuters, Twitter and other feeds. While I am heartbroken to see such loss, I was comforted to see early news bits yesterday that Lucy survived. (Yes, I went specifically looking for news of Lucy!)

San Diego is a rather long way from the Jersey Shore ... gotta get back there someday.

Thanks for this post! I live at the shore, but north of Lucy, and I saw nothing about her in the news.

I am shocked she survived!! She seems to get damaged by storms fairly regularly. GREAT news.

PS 48 hours with no power, and that will continue for many more days here. We are lucky to have a generator, others are really in trouble without one.

NBC news had a clip this morning showing Lucy still standing. She didn't even look damaged.

Fantastic. It helps the recovery process when those struggling can look to an icon like this that withstood the storm as a beacon of hope. Well done, Lucy!
