Hey

Are all the BW studios - boardwalk views basically the same or are some better than others for some reason (quieter, better view / balcony, more central location etc.) ?

thanks for any thoughts / advice

We've stayed there A LOT, and always stay in Boardwalk View studio. We've been close to elevators (more noise, in my opinion) and the furthest room closest to Dueling Pianos, and 4 rooms in between. We've honestly never really had issues with anything. You do hear the Dance club at night closer to it, but really it's nothing that keeps you up. Those doors are pretty good. We've never stayed higher than 3rd floor, so I've hear higher up is better for everything. Honestly though, we've got great pics from every room with Illuminations. My opinion is there isn't a bad view on the Boardwalk, but I'm sure someone might disagree. To each their own, it seems! Have fun!

A rule of thumb -

Further down the hall and higher floors offer the better views.

Lower floors and closer to the lobby offer the best convenience (especially if you can take a few stairs, but don't necessarily want to take five flights).

The thing about the Boardwalk is that there is a single set of elevators near the lobby for guest use - and the entire building is like a huge walk-out - the front of the building has its entrances (and the lobby) on the second floor, the pool and the Boardwalk are down a floor - so no matter where you stay, you need to move between the levels to use the resort. Which means you either need to walk to and from that elevator or take the stairs.

In regards to noise, its a tough one. I tend to think closer to the end near the dueling piano bar is louder, especially later at night.

Over Thimbles and things (The Store), gets loud in the evening with the performers on the boardwalk, and kids playing the games and winning prizes. Also depends on the time of year and how busy.

In the AM you will hear the boat horns (which I enjoyed).
Did not enjoy early AM rolling carts of some sort going over the boardwalk, nor the power washing of the boardwalk.

With all that said I am on waitlist to get Boardwalk view for our next trip!

The link below will show you room locations in case you are not fully aware.

I always request top floor. The only time I had a noise problem at BWV is when I was on the second floor. My biggest fear is getting one of the 3 villas on the first floor right on the boardwalk. I would hate having people walking by plus the view would be limited.

Mentioned above is having been close to the elevator and hearing a lot of elevator noise. Be aware there are no boardwalk view rooms close to the elevator. Those that are close to the elevator overlooking the Village Greeen are pool/garden view.

Go to this room map showing the rooms along the boardwalk: http://photopost.wdwinfo.com/data/500/BWV_BoardwalkView.jpg The studios that are in blue above Thimbles and Thread are dedicated studios, meaning they are not attached to a 1BR. All those in green connect to a 1BR and can be part of a 2BR lock-off. Some of the dedicated studios have a small daybed. Also, their advantage is that you don't hear any noise from the other room coming in under the coonnecting doors. Thjose are, in my view, the best studios on the boardwalk and you might request a dedicated studio.

Also, none of the studios are actually next to Jellyrolls. Thus the only risk of noise in the studios is from the boardwalk itself and the higher you are the less there is and thus you should also request high floor.

I just booked at BWV for the first time ever, I was only able to get a standard view studio, are there any standard views with a view of anything but the parking lot?

You don't get the noise from the elevators - but the closer you are to the elevators, the more people you have walking past your room to get to the elevators. On some mornings an hour before park opening it can sound like herds of stampeding buffalo moving past your door.

I'm not very sensitive to it - BW seems to have pretty good sound baffling between the rooms and hallways, but I think that is the reason some people prefer away from the elevators. We did stay in a GV once off of one of those places where the hall opens and there was a one of those poof things for sitting on - it was the frequent meeting spot for families that had gotten spread over several rooms - you could hear them because the double doors for the GV living room are right there.

For us, it's not the sound of footsteps - even those that sound like the proverbial herd of elephants, LOL.

It's the talking ! And the parents trying to shush their excited children by yelling at them! :teeth: And it's the "happy" people coming home at 1 or 2 am after an evening at JellyRolls! That's what makes being close to the elevators less than ideal for us.

If someone in you party has difficulty walking where you would need the elevator, a room near the elevator may be noisy but if you end up with a room at the other end it is a long walk to the elevator.

Did you book through DVC or a cash reservation through Disney? Your post made me wonder because usually for DVC it is standard view that is real hard to get and is never the only one you can get because it disappears long before preferred pool/garden view fills. If you booked through Disney, standard view could be a number of places. If through DVC it would be a room along the front of the building or just around the corner where the tennis courts are. Though referred to as parking lot view, you really see mostly grass and trees from most standards and the views are really not worse than many preferred pool/garden views.

I misposted, it is actually pool/garden view and it was made with points.

Ok, if it is pool/garden view, you can request the village green area, which will look out over the lawn behind the lobby. It gives you a partial boardwalk view depending on what unit you are in.

Can you request the Village Green area during on-line check in or do you call? If we call, who should we call? :)

Thanks!

I have rented DVC points from an owner for our trip in October. Studio Boardwalk view is unavailable for two of our four nights, so we requested Garden View, higher floor. Is there a waiting list for Boardwalk View, and if so, how would I get on it?

If you booked with your own points you can call or email member services and have them add your request to your reservation. If you rented points, ask your member to put in the request for you since you can't do it yourself.

Regarding a waitlist for Boardwalk view, you can ask the owner about starting a waitlist for Boardwalk view. Depending on the time period you are going, you may or may not get it.

We had a Village Green studio and it was PERFECT. I believe it was on the 5th floor and it was maybe 6 or 7 rooms from the elevator. Big balcony for a studio and the view was amazing, we looked out over the Friendship boat dock and could see the tops of the Illuminations fireworks at night.
If you can request it- DO IT!

Remember requests are not guaranteed. I requested Village Green and got pool view in November.
