Although I have had DVC for many years I have never stayed at boardwalk and I'm hoping to in July of next year. Can anyone tell me what is the best request to submit for a standard View.

Standard view is along the parking lot entrance. I've heard the ME luggage goes out early in the morning and makes a lot of racket. So a higher floor and away from the elevators is supposed to be better.

That depends on your preferences. There are no "great view" rooms, and many of them look out into trees blocking the view. The standard view rooms are marked by green in the following graphic.

So lots of people focus on other needs. Do you want to be close to the elevator...there's only one set and it's at one end of the standard view rooms. The hallways at BWV can get very long for some people. As @Deb & Bill indicated, there is a potential for some noise in those rooms which look out over the drive-up entryway.

Others like to ask for "across from the bus stop" which is near the "corner" of the standard view rooms. There is an exit there on the first floor that you can access via stairs from other floors that leads to a path close to the bus stop...you can see the concrete path in the photo. If you are lugging a good sized stroller, you may not want to mess with the stairs.

Keep in mind that the lobby is actually on Floor 2 at BWV.

It's all about what is important to you. Good luck. :)

Some of the rooms on the very end overlook the tennis courts, but some maps designate them as preferred view.

I haven't seen those maps but I'm sure there are resort layouts with somewhat different information.

I put together the graphic based on information posted here on the DIS. Everyone (that I've seen) who has stayed in those rooms overlooking the tennis courts has indicated that they had booked Standard View. However, we know that Disney is not always consistent with their room designations. So it is entirely possible/probable that someone generated a map with conflicting information. I've been using this map for about 14 years and most have agreed with the layout. Unfortunately, Disney will not provide such information.

There are some reports that there are some rooms near the main pool that look out at the structure underneath the main pool slide, and these rooms are also Standard View. Those would be the rooms closest to the canal. But apparently sometimes they are classified as water/garden. So I didn't mark them on the calendar as SV.

I booked a Standard View room years ago and was assigned a handicapped room overlooking Leaping Libations. It was really a great room and location except the bathroom with the leaky roll-in shower and lack of counter space.

If it overlooked Leaping Libations you were given a Garden/pool view.
We have not had luck with any of our requests at BWV in recent years so I am not going to make any requests next trip and see what we get.
We have been in the very last room near the tennis courts. It is very quiet down there and convenient if you have a car.

I booked a Standard View room. I think that they might bump down the handicapped rooms from GV to SV.

Any idea which room that was? That same thing happened to me in September. Room 2070.

I don't remember the room number but it was on the 2nd floor and the first room on the right after taking a left at the elevators.

I've had that room too. When the front desk CM showed me the room location on the map when we checked in, I questioned how we ended up with a room facing the pool area since I had booked a Standard View room. The CM explained it was because the room overlooked the back wall of Leaping Libations. There isn't much of a pool or garden view from that room.

What she didn't tell us at check in is that it is an HA room. While the room location is good, I agree with Robin that the lack of storage space in the bathroom and no proper closet in the room made it an inconvenient room. Given the lack of a pool/garden view and the inconvenient setup of that room, I'm sure they would get lots of complaints if it was designated as anything other than Standard View.

ETA: Our room was on the ground floor, room 1070 I think.

The picture Granny shared, the green line at bottom of picture to the extreme left side, we prefer those rooms. We ask for a high floor, near tennis courts. Here is my reason(or method to the madness:D), that is a bit of a hike to the front lobby area, but you can bypass the long halls, via going outside, and cutting off some time. Also, its close to the bus stop, its basically halfway to Epcot and HS at this point, and there is a little parking just beyond valet that gets you real close if you have a car.
I can thank Granny from many yrs back for leading me to the tennis court area!

Yeah, it was a pain but I would take that room again as a standard view room in a heartbeat. The view was OK and the location was very convenient. We brought the plastic table in from the porch to use in the bathroom and also grabbed pool towels for the shower flood.

They need to revision those handicap accessible showers to a glass wall/barn door configuration to make it easy to get into the shower for those needing the HCA shower (plus add a full length drain at the entrance to the shower) and make it usable for those who don't need it and get it. At the annual meeting, they said that they would be considering something with that shower after a member complained about them. I find it hard to believe they've never gotten a complaint of all the water on the floor before.

My personal suspicion, based on nothing except all the garlic I ate for lunch:

If they have a Standard out of service, they move people into unbooked HA units and/or a few "lesser" P/G rooms as their first line of defense, versus, say, giving them something that is a super-wow Boardwalk View or something.

... or these are the SV handicapped rooms and they are assigned just like any other HA room that is not booked by someone who needs it.

We stay Standard View every year. We request "near tennis court". We like being far from the action, a little more peaceful.

We haven't stayed pool/garden view in years but I had a room that sounded similar but on a higher floor. Our view was completely obstructed by a tree. I asked at the front desk and was told all the rooms facing the pool are considered pool view - but who knows.....

I had this 1 bedroom as well when once I booked a one bedroom standard view.
