Last time we were down I saw a scooter rental company at the Boardwalk. Is this a regular thing? I am thinking about renting scooters for my parents there instead of the parks as they looked nicer. Are they though? How hard is it to manuever them on the bus? I don't anticipate that they will be using them constantly so maybe we should just rent one in the park as they both said they plan on walking a lot. But I am concerned as to what to do if they both get worn out at once.

myself, but I haven't rented from them. I ended up going with Apple Scooters; because, the price was right. Through the grapevine here it seems they are a decent company.

The Boardwalk place is the only one that's on Disney property; so, this can be an advantage if something mechanical fails with the scooter. I would imagine it would take a lot less time to get a replacement.

The good thing about having a scooter all the time is that you have it all the time. The bus factor is tough. When we took our MIL who used one we had to park it for her on the bus. This is the worse part; it's not easy getting it into place on the bus. Also, there are usually only two spots on the bus and you may have to wait for a second bus if someone is in front of you. Wheelchairs use the same spots.

When you rent from the outside you are responsible for charging the scooter up each night and bringing it into your room. Two scooters in one room can be tough to fit, too. Now, if you are doing a single day rental with Boardwalk you don't have to do this, but then you have to get two scooters each and everyday from the place. I'm not sure there would be a guarantee that two scooters would be available all the time when you do it this way. Also, if you are not staying at the Boardwalk this could be very difficult to do. You have to return the scooters everyday if you are doing a one day rental with them.

the name of the company is Buena Vista Scooters. You can google them ==they have a website with info about prices, etc. If your Mom and Dad want to walk "some of the time" maybe you can rent one at first and let them trade off? And then rent a second one if it appears you need it. They can have another at your hotel the next day. (or maybe even same day)

Good suggestion to rent one and try it out to see if the both need one or can switch off.

There is contact information for Buena Vista Scooters and a lot of other companies in post #2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread near the top of this board. There is also a link to that thread in my signature.

that trading off might be a perfect solution in your situation. As stated you can always get another scooter even if you rent one in the park the first day. If they truly want to walk some it should work with one scooter. This will make it a lot easier all the way around handling only one scooter.

Just an FYI, just because Buena Vista Scooters is on property, don't think you can just "pick one up", they take reservations just like all of the other scooter companies and sell out frequently.

If you even think you need an ECV, reserve one.
