In all 15 trips I have never been to the boardwalk. Was thinking about going one evening after dinner at Cape May or Capt Grill.

My questions are: How late does it stay open(gemeral store and entertainers)

Also is it worth it really if we arent going to eat or go to the bars their?

Thanks so much!

Not for us.
YMMV.

Several of the restaurants are worth the trip. we are DVC and stay at the BWV so catching some of the performances in the evening while walking around with a beer or an ice cream is enjoyable.
so picking up an ice cream at Beaches and Cream after dining at either the YC or BC would make for a pleasant half hour or so and then catch Illuminations at EPCOT would make for a very pleasant evening.

But I'd advise against making a special trip just to see the Boardwalk shows.

The first time we stayed at Boardwalk I really looked forward to the evening entertainment. I pictured lots of jugglers, etc and a really lively atmosphere. When it didn't pan out that way, I attributed it to the time of year when we traveled.

The next time we stayed at Boardwalk, it was the same thing. I think I saw a couple of small acts on two of the nights we were there. That's it. So I've concluded that it's always pretty quiet there. It doesn't even pick up on the weekend nights in my experience.

I like that the resort is quiet, so I'm sure we'll stay there again sometime. But I definitely wouldn't bother going over there looking for some entertainment. If you have kids the right age, it might be fun to rent one of those surry bikes. But really there's not much more than that going on.

We hit up the Boardwalk on an afternoon in April and were very bored. Nothing was going on and we didn't eat there. Many people have said it's more lively at night so we plan to check it out again this trip at night and stop by Jellyrolls for a drink, which people rave about. So we'll see!

Not enough there to keep you busy for very long if all you are planning to do is visit the store and see the performers. There will only be one or two performers outside. They have some carnival games if that interests you. You can try Jellyrolls. There's a $10 cover per person and they don't allow anybody under 21 in.

If you want to stroll around the lake after dinner to aid digestion, the buskers (there are usually two different ones, alternating) will provide a few minutes' diversion as you pass by. I would not walk over just for them, though.

The store is Yet Another Disney Resort Store, but slightly bigger. The Wyland gallery is Art, and a little bit unusual (but not significantly more compelling than some of the more interesting shops in Epcot). The Belle Vue Room isn't a half bad place to grab an after dinner drink, but I found it a little too sedate for my tastes.

I wouldn't make a special trip just for the Boardwalk with no intentions of eating or going to Jellyrolls. However, if your going to go to Cape May or planned on playing mini-golf at Fantasia Gardens or were going to be in the area for whatever reason, I would stop by, walk around and check it out.

You've got Jellyrolls there, which is a "blast". Dueling pianos whee the players play songs that people put requests in for (with a $1 tip or larger if you really want them to play the song)
Then there's the Atlantic Dance and ESPN club. There's a lot to do at night and these stay open at least til 1am.
Also Jellyrolls does have a cover charge

We have a 9, soon to be 10 year old daughter. We made a special trip when she was 8 and really had fun. She got picked to spin plates! :cool1: We stayed at the Boardwalk when she was 9 and still had fun. We love the Epcot resort are, but as Robo said, "YMMV."

It's a nice stroll and a short diversion. It is a nice relaxing couple of hours away from the parks. You can also walk to the Beach Club and get some ice cream at Beaches & Cream.

FYI, Jelly Rolls & Atlantic Dance Hall are 21 & over clubs.

Take Care!

I would head over there to check it out on the same day you are at Epcot. There isn't much going on during the day..in fact, nothing going on. The games, all two or three of them, start up later on, in the evening. On some nights you may find a juggler there, or a magician or a piano player. Disney has really cut back on the acts on the boardwalk in the past few years.
Really, there isn't all that much to see or do there.
It is nice to leave Epcot and walk around the lake though. That way you get to see the other resorts and can stop in if you decide to check them out. Nice way to get a bite to eat and then a nice amble back to Epcot.

I can't remember what time they start at but the entertainers perform at random locations along the Boardwalk from 5:00 PM or 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM.

Their stores located along the Boardwalk close at 11:00 PM and that also includes Seashore Sweets which is the location where you get Ice Cream. Their restaurants such as Flying Fish, Kouzzina and Big River Grille & Bre wing Works close at 10:00 PM, although the ESPN Club closes at 12:00 AM or 1:00 AM dpending on that specifc day.

Are the entertainers there every night? We are eating at Cape May on a Wednesday (for the fried shrimp:)) and I thought I read on an entertainment schedule that the entertainers are there only certain nights.

Still looks like Thur-Sun only.
But, go ahead and take the boat ride across the lake (5 minutes, or so) or just stroll over on your own and take a look for yourself.

If we are already in the Boardwalk area, we always spend an hour or so just walking along the planks, and then having a seat to take in the view.

Be sure to look INSIDE the Boardwalk Resort's lobby.
It's very beautifully detailed to the style of classic resorts of the turn of the 20th Century.

We are staying at CSR, will I only be able to get to the Boardwalk by taking a bus to DTD or a park first?

Also, if thats the case, how late is DTD open til usually?

We are staying at CSR,

1- will I only be able to get to the Boardwalk by taking a bus to DTD or a park first?

Also, if thats the case,

2- how late is DTD open til usually?

1- Unless you want to take a cab, yes.
If the park is still open, go to DHS and walk or take the boat to Boardwalk.
After park hours, you can take the "DTD hub" route.

If you go to Epcot, you'll need to use a ticket (or AP) to get into the park, then, its a long walk to the International Gateway, then a bit farther to Boardwalk.

2- The hours at DTD are the same the year-round.

Take the bus to DHS and then either walk or boat to BW. The walk is under 20 mins. The boat ride itself is just about 20+ mins to BW. You can get off at the S/D and walk over the bridge to BW which saves about 10 mins of boat time. The thing is that if you don't see the boat at the DHS dock, or coming towards the dock, you could have a wait of 15+ mins until the boat does show up.
I like the walk. When you get off the bus, head towards the entrance to DHS, but actually go straight, towards the canal. When you get to the canal, DHS on your left, parking lot on your right, go to the right and follow the sidewalk. You will come to a downward slope, with signage to BW, on the left. Take this. It runs beside the canal...very nicely lit walkway. Very safe.

If you don't want to head back to DHS to return to CSR, or you don't want to take the bus to DTD and then transfer, you can take a cab from BW. That's what I would do.
