Boardwalk Preferred - always facing water?

Preferred view won't be Boardwalk view, which is what faces the Beach Club. Personally, I LOVE the BWV and heard no loud drunks outside at all when we were there in December.

Iagree have not had any problem with noise with the BWV. They are the best views in Disney IMHO.

I've always felt the term preferred view was misleading. That it caused unreasonable expectations of view with the members. I think if one realizes that all units were the same initially and that DVD decided to reduce some rooms to be less points, you figure out that the standard view units are simply less than the "preferred view", not necessarily the other way around. If one thinks in terms of resort location rather than unit view, you get a better idea of what to expect.

The "21s" standard is right next door to that infamous room. And have an amazing view and are very peaceful.

We just became members via F&F SSR special yesterday and have already booked our first trip with a standard room at BWV in Aug! Prior to joining we went to Disney every year staying at Deluxe resorts; however, never stayed at BW as it was out of our pricerange compared to the others. All that being said... What is the "21s" and how would I ask for it when I make a reservation? Your rave sounded like it would be worth asking for!

THANK YOU!!!

I've stayed in a boardwalk view 3 times. The only time I had a noise problem was when I was on the second floor above Big River Grill last June. Being summer, people hung out there until well after midnight, talking and I'm sure drinking. I always request top floor, the other 2 times I was on 4 or 5, no noise problem (plus it was October and December).

Preferred is overlooking the Boardwalk or the pool. I think it is worth it, it's not that noisey IMO.

To clarify the above again, there are THREE categories of villas at BWV:

Standard
Preferred
Preffered BW view

Just booking "preferred' will not get you a Boardwalk view. To get that, you must book Preferred Boardwalk view. The confusion here stems from the fact Preferred and Preferred Boardwalk View are the same # of points (the "bargain" element referred to earlier). I'm also 100% with byoung - the views from the Preferred Boardwalk View villas (particulary those on the 4th and 5th floor towards the Jellyrolls end of the resort) are INARGUABLY not just the the best at Disney but among the top in the entire time share world.

Process of elimination?

Nah, I prefer my golf course/water view at OKW much more than your BWview. It's what you like.

Agreed. :)

I'll argue too - and I'm a BW Villas owner. I really dislike the ugly "Epcot" they needed to add on top of Spaceship Earth. I like the BW View for the consistancy of the view - you always know what you'll be looking at - there isn't the wild variation of "Dumpster or Lake" that you get at VWL for instance - but the view itself - doesn't live up to the hype, IMHO. I'm as happy in the Standard View rooms. But the Preferred View rooms have the excessive variation problem - dumpster or lake.

Excellent summary of the core issue. The DIS is full of posts from people happy with the fact their standard BW villa had a better than expected view, and while some complaints about Preferred BW view noise are recurring, the general overall sentiment seems to be the view and ambience is hard to beat.

It's the "Preferred" category at BWV that shows overall the least satisfaction, per earlier comments (and nicely summarized by Crisi) largely a function of the fact the term "preferred" leads to expectations that are often not met, due to a wide range of quality of what you actually end up with in those villas.

Perhaps DVC needs to study this, assessing which particular Preferred villas at BWV are leading to the most requests for room changes -- and considering re-categorizing those into standard. Only risk here is they could extend that in to recategorizing some of the choice standard view rooms into Preferred!:scared1:

Yah, maybe they would even out the points all over the resort and only have ONE view. Like all the other resorts.

They could be if the essentially raised points overall, they would have to lower them somewhere else to compensate. So if they changed a given room, likelihood is they would change another room in reverse to compensate and keep the points the same.
