I am not sure yet of what our full plans for Mother’s Day will be, but I know I will need to pick up some baked goods as my mom loves pastries. I was thinking about picking up a cake as well, but nothing special, just for an extra. I notice in many of the pictures taken at the Boardwalk Bakery that they tend to have cakes sitting in their cases. Has anyone bought one, without special ordering? Taste any good?

I know I can order a cake, but I do not want a special cake. I just want to pick one out of there case if they have any. Mostly, I will be picking up a variety of their other pastries there and thought I might give one of the cakes a try. I just want to know if anyone has picked up a cake right out of the case and how it tasted.

My only concern with not ordering a cake would be what happens if you go to the bakery and there are

A. not any cakes available for purchase
B. the cakes are not any flavors you want

That's probably just the planner in me, but I wouldn't want to take the chance especially for a special occasion like Mother's Day. Unless you're okay with maybe not having a cake at all. That being said, I'm sure the standard cakes are made the same way special order cakes are, just more "standard".

My Birthday cake was great. My wife didn't know you needed a 48 hrs. advance for a special cake. She pickup up a nice cake. She had some decoration she brought from home.

How does it look? They made me wear either the ears or the red hat.

Get one and try it and let us know.

Yes, after CRT ruined our anniversary celebration (lost our order and much other bad stuff), DH walked from our room to BWB and got a chocolate/chocolate cake there. They even threw on some words. The cake wasn't very tasty though, the cake was dry and the buttercream wasn't buttery. We wouldn't do it again, but it filled our immediate (sad) needs.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I do not have to have a cake as for my mom, she would prefer the danishes or other desserts. The cake would be an extra if I choose to get one, so I do not want to order one and then realize that we just would not eat it. I see that gojoe had a good cake and that jenjersnap did not, but I also know that I have had good and bad cakes from the same bakery before.

Maybe my best bet is to just take a cake mix and pans from home and if we decide we need something extra, I can just bake some cupcakes and make my own frosting. I will just have to remember to tip Mousekeeping extra that day for doing the dishes. (I am staying in the Cabins at FW so they do my dishes.)

tobikaye, I would ask how old the cakes are sitting out. That might be a key, because ours wasn't very fresh.

Also, they often have mini mickey head chocolate cakes that are about $4 and are very cute and celebratory to me. Might be an option too.

There is take out at the Beach Club which is a short walk from the BW. I don't remember if they have pastries, maybe someone else knows.

Can you just drive to Boardwalk and tell them you are there for the bakery and they let you in> I really want to stop by the morning we leave ad bring some goodies back.
