Board Games a Bad Idea on VMK?

Earlier today, I played a checkers game with a girl and I'm going to assume it was a kid. It was either that or a very immature adult (not that I acted very maturely myself in this situation, but anyway...). I was on the blue team, so I was going first. The timer had ticked down only about 3 seconds on the first move of the game and this girl says "Go!" to me. Well, I didn't appreciate being rushed, since I was still thinking, so I intentionally let the timer tick down to about 5 seconds left before I moved. On my second turn, the same thing happened and I intentionally let the timer tick down again. When it happened a third time, I just decided I would let the timer tick down to 5 or less on every turn. She said other stuff that I considered to be rude during that game, also, which made me glad I was being annoying, and I should have used the ignore button, but anyway, that's beside the point.

Anyway, the point I want to make here is was it really a good decision to have a board game on VMK when board games (especially checkers) require thought and patience and most kids haven't learned patience? I realize I'm generalizing and there are kids who do have patience on here (as a matter of fact, I don't know how many other people I've played that were kids, but this is the first rude person I've encountered), but I'm sure there are many, many more players on VMK like this girl.

And there are many more people like this girl. Some people will rush you
when its at 27 seconds or something. The main annoying thing is if people line
up in that line while you are playing, the people in the line get so annoying. @_@

Let's face it at times there can be some rude people on vmk, whether adult or child, but I like to think that good people far outweigh the rude.

I haven't myself gotten into playing that many checker games, and the first game I played was with a truly rude obnoxious person. oh well. Yavn states in his newsletter to have patience and to be nice at checkers, I am sure there have been complaints, but then mansion has problems and pirates also, just hit the ignore button is the best thing any of us can do! Don't let the rude one's get to you!

yeah I still think it was a good move. Click the ignore button ;)

I think you will find more often than not, they are used to winning by bullying their peers while they play :)

If they dont like how you play, let them quit and give up a win level I say.

I have done the same thing when encountering rude persons in checkers. Each time, I let the time run down. This works best when jumping because you get 2 times (or more).

I played someone (i assume was a young person) and i had pretty much won the board. At the time i had about 88 wins, and she has i know over 100. She had the nerve to tell me ... "you have to much time, you need to get a life" and then jumped down out of her seat. I was thinking "you have more wins than me and you are telling me to get a life. LOL. oh well, the checker playing still goes on. HEHEHE!!

Great advice Aengus. :)

As for Board Games being a good idea or not, I think they are. It's another great opportunity for other plays to play against each other head on. See as Pirates is the only game yet to allow us to go head to head against someone. Also for those who have yet to learn patience, this might help them learn it. And I don't think no matter what age they are there is going to be someone impatient out there. In my opinion the lines are the worst thing I have experienced, the people I have played against so far have not been too bad, but the people waiting in line are pretty bad. They'll rush you and the other person till they get their turn, begging to get ahead. So what I do when I'm in line to avoid that is move to the back of the line to get away from them..

LOL, I'm pretty sure I just played against the same girl you did, Mint! (Did she have 500+ wins?) I've NEVER been harassed so much by any player ever! I was just nice, nice, nice, nice... it was so fun!

She tried to intimidate me, same as you, and I finally decided to use that "Sleight of Hand" magic... totally worth 500 credits to me to get a Top Hat piece and start picking her checkers off one by one. Oh man, did that make her mad! She called me a "glasses face lose her"! (and less kind stuff too...;) )

She said she doesn't waste time playing against "lose hers" and quit. (YAY! I win!) I told her that I only used magic against her because she was rude to me, that she should learn some manners and that it makes me sad that she doesn't seem to be a happy person.

I did end up reporting her, before I used the magic.

And wow, I can't believe there's a game where people are ruder than in Pirates! :rotfl: But I won't give in, I just keep being kind. It's way more interesting than ignoring or leaving, in my opinion.

I don't think it being a bored has anything to do with it, its that fact that there is competitiveness and that's all it takes to be inimidated I think. It's the same way in pirates....
