Mom and I ate there for our final meal the first week of August. We knew it was going to be pricey, but we knew it would also be excellent quality, unique food with great service.
We were not disappointed! We loved the ambiance, the electronica lounge music, the very attentive staff, and the appreciation for both excellent food AND presentation.
I got the tuna tartare for an appetizer and the Daily Dancing Fish for an entree. Mom got a roasted beet salad for the app and the King Block Salmon for entree. We split the Mai Tai dessert thing. I also enjoyed a vodka martini w/ blue cheese stuffed olive, a lovely zinfandel, and an aperitif of absinthe. Mom had a manhattan and a white wine.
The tuna tartare: raw tuna, wrapped in a slice of cucumber, topped with peppery greens with crispy rock shrimp hidden underneath and a scallion cream sauce/ olive oil to garnish
The beet salad: Cubed roasted red beets and cooked ribbons of yellow beet with greens and "3-way walnuts" (candied, powdered, and something else) topped with a goat cheese dressing
The Daily Dancing Fish: I think it was a red snapper, cooked on a stick over the grill with a cream sauce to garnish. It came with a Mediterranean "salad: which was a slice of yellow squash with feta, garlic tahini, breadcrumbs. The garnish was a hummus sauce (pureed chickpeas) with fried chickpeas and olive oil. The server filleted it for me tableside.
The King Salmon Block: I was too into my entree to pay much attention, but it was delicious looking salmon with clams, potatoes, and green beans. Oh, and more walnut powder!
Dessert: It was very complex, and I apologize for the dark picture- my cellphone doesn't do well in low light. It had some sort of banana custard on the bottom, topped with a square piece of papaya paper, then a white chocolate dome. The sauce was something rum, and when he poured it over the chocolate, it was kind of "flambe" by instantly melting to reveal a mango sorbet ball inside. We didn't really like it, but it was cool!
The Absinthe: Wow, what a strong beverage! It was like Sambucca and Scotch had a devil child. But it was cool to be able to order it here in the States!
It was a lovely- if expensive ($200)- experience!
