Blues Brothers movie... how old to watch it?

I'd say 10 to 12 would be ok, with parent permission.

and meanwhile in Germany . . . The Hangover was shown at school at DS's 7th grade class sleepover (it has a "from 12 rating here) :rotfl2:

Does he want something older in the hope that not many would have seen it, or is that your idea? What would he have otherwise wanted to pick and why is it not an option? I think Blues Brothers is generally fine in terms of adult content, but other than key quotes/scenes, I find it a little boring. If he wants "something fun", maybe Ghostbusters?

No matter what you pick, once everyone's seated I think you should announce that movie x was unavailable so you had to pick something at the last minute and then start Dirty Dancing as a joke.

We've travelled to Europe a few times. We're always amused by what is on the tv there opposed to the US. They definitely aren't afraid to show skin.

Trust me none of this is my doing. I'm getting a headache just trying to facilitate the thing. My son has a wide range of interests when it comes to movies and music. Old or new doesn't really matter to him.

The Hangover would be fine if he only wanted to invite kids that are allowed to see it. But, he has tons of friends from all kinds of groups at school. He wants to invite them all and have a movie they all enjoy. I'm pretty proud of him for thinking that way, actually. There are 34 seats in the theater and he will fill them all up with friends. It makes me really happy to know he has such a large and diverse group of friends.

Whatever the selection of movie, anything beyond a PG13 should be run by the other parents as to whether they are okay with their kids watching a movie beyond their age guidelines.

I hope my post didn't come across as snarky, I only meant that other than trying to find something across various levels of "appropriateness" for his particular friends, it would help to know his thought process as to why he's shooting down other suggestions you've made. Many of the things you've posted are appropriate in terms of content, so why are they a "no" from his perspective? I think it would help other posters come up with ideas.

No idea why they are "no". Sometimes with teenagers you have to throw out a million and one options before one sounds perfect to them.

Yep, nudity is not such a big deal here. Neither are swear words. Movies with those things in them nearly always carry a lower rating here--but violence gets rated higher.

She said that the movie title would be in the invitation.
