Hi ~
We'll be on the 4 day Wonder (11/3) that includes a stop at Freeport. This is our first cruise ever.
I'm undecided about excursions. Any thoughts/opinions in regards to Blue Lagoon Beach Day in Nassau or Lucayan Resort Beach day in Freeport ? Can you snorkel at both ? Is either nicer or better experience than the other. Anyone do the Snorkel Adventure in Freeport ? I appreciate any thoughts you might have. I'm so confused !

Hi,
In January 2002 my family and I did the Lucayan Beach Resort excursion. The ride from the port was approximately 20 minutes. When we reached the resort we were given tickets for lunch and (I think) return transportation tickets. The resort was very pretty with a beautiful uncrowded pool with a killer slide (DH almost lost his shorts-captured on film ...lol). As far as snorkeling goes, we didn't see any fish at all. So we ended up bringing our stuff for nothing--no big deal though. They had plenty of lounge chairs spread around the beach. Lunch was provided by a snack bar type place right on the beach. We enjoyed a hamburger and sandwiches. Also, there was a DJ set up.

The folks working at the resort were very nice. I had somehow forgotten our sunscreen on the ship and went to purchase. When I approached someone to enquire where I could buy he gave me a tube to use for the day! To be honest I was shocked. I thought I was going to pay an outrageous price for a tube of sunscreen. All in all a great day.

If you have further questions don't hesitate to ask.

Mary

Thanks for sharing your experience at Lucayan Beach, Mary. I believe my understanding between this beach and Blue Lagoon in Nassau, is that Lucayan is more of a resortish-feel ? More similar to Atlantis ? Blue Lagoon is maybe more of just a beach like Castaway Cay ? I really appreciate your imput Mary---sounds like you had a nice day here.

Hi Maria,
Yes, we had a very relaxing day. I realize now that I forgot to mention that the resort is located across the street from a village type shopping area. Small buildings spread out selling various local items. While the lucayan resort was nice I don't think I would compare it to Atlantis. Having never been to Atlantis but seeing numerous pictures it is definitely not in that league. It is a large resort with a few clusters of buildings though. I have some pics at home (work today) that I could send you. Let me know and I will dig them out.

Also, we didn't book the excursion until the morning the excursion was to take place. My understanding is if the weather isn't the greatest they still go ahead with it. So if its cloudy, etc, you still have to go. If that were the case we would have just as well stayed and enjoyed the ship . Luckily, and I have no idea how crowded this particular excursion gets, they had three seats available. I do recall that there was 2 buses of people on this excursion.

We did the Blue Lagoon Excursion and really enjoyed it. It was much different that Castaway Cay because of how crowded Castaway Cay is. We were told by someone on this board to walk farther than most people did and it was totally empty on the other side of the island. There was picnic tables, hammocks and we were the only ones there. We saw lots of fish and had a wonderful day.

Thanks Mary...I'd love to see them whenever you get the chance.

Again, this is great advice. Perhaps I will hold off on this one.

Yet another invaluable tip......thank you NewtoWDW
