Hey everyone, I'm thrilled to get to treat my DS and DH to their first blue bayou meal and heard its a good idea to have a reservation when they open at 11. But I'm wondering if anyone has tried this and if there's actually a line forming before they open?and if so how early do you think we should show up? We will be dining mid September either a Thursday or Friday. I just want to make sure we have a table by the water to get the full experience!
Thanks :)

I think 11:30 is the earliest reservation you can get. Make it for then (or for the earliest, if I'm wrong about 11:30 being it) and then show up at 11 to check in, at which time you need to request a waterside table. (We do this on the first day we arrive every October trip. Started doing so after our first trip with inlaws a few years back. Our rooms weren't ready when we arrived in the morning, which we expected. But we hadn't anticipated the 100-degree weather, and the kids and inlaws were all hot and cranky. Kept wishing we had a nice cool indoor restaurant reservation and a place to relax after traveling before heading out to the rides. BB has become that beginning-of-the-trip go-to place for us. :) It's so cool and dark that it kind of chills everyone out.

We have been there a few times now and unless they have changed the opening time, used to be 1130, we would make reservations for the 1130 time, show up at least 15 minutes early ask for waterside. We are not big eaters so we "shared" a meal. Has not failed yet, but there is no way of reserving waterside.
Nice place to eat when the weather is warm, make sure you check out the menus.

Have fun,

Jack
PS: if you type Blue Bayou into the search you will get more answers than you can think of.

I typically don't do any reservations and usually get seated within 10-20 mins. If we choose waterside, usually up to an hour wait

3 months ago we had a reservation for 12:30. We got there around 12:05 and asked for a waterside table. We were seated at a waterside table by 12:20, 10 minutes before our reservation time

Hello,

We have not eaten at Blue Bayou in a few years, we always made reservations at 11:30 AM. We were there 30 Minutes ahead of our reservation time to make sure we were one of the first families in line. At the check-in podium we asked if we can get a table by the water. Another tip is to bring something that has a flashlight capability with you because it is dark in the restaurant. It sometimes was hard to read the menu with the low lights :) Hope you have a great time!

Yup, 11:30 is the opening time, make your reservation for that time and show up 20 minutes early. The first 6 tables should be waterside seating.

Many things dictate whether you can get a walk up..day of the week, season, holidays, weather(hot vs cool) time you want to eat, etc. I have watched many families be turned down because they thought they could just walk up and it is a done deal.
BB is very popular so if you do not wish to have a disappointment on the horizon, make a reservation, but do remember there is a no show fee.
Just my two cents

Good luck,

Jack

Thank you so much everyone! Great tips and advice. Sounds like we should definitely have a reservation at 1130. Can't wait to the heat at Blue Bayou I'm so excited! It's great there's a place like this we can all share excitement!
