Blue Bayou

I went to BB last week and really did not like the quality of food. Getting a waterfront table was cool, but not worth it. The gumbo was not good, and jambalaya was ok at best. OTOH my wife liked her salmon dish.

After many visits to the Blue Bayou, I would say that it could be worth the premium price you, if:
  • the quality of food was better
  • there were better menu choices (appetizer, entree, AND dessert)
  • wine was available
  • the restaurant was 21+ only
  • the light level was slightly lowered
  • HALF of the tables were removed
  • no tables larger than 4-tops, with most tables being 2-tops

Now that would be a premium restaurant experience.

I've always wanted to eat here, just to say I did it, but the hit and miss (mostly miss) reviews keep me from making the leap for the price. Loved Cafe Orleans and Carnation Cafe and Ariels. Until more consistant good review come out, I'll stick with what works.:thumbsup2

Lower light level? As it is I just about need a flash light to read the menu. LOL

LOL I think I have to agree (despite my post!), my aging eyes are starting to not like reading in dim lighting, either! ;)

Better quality of food is a no brainer, wine being unavailable is a function of the liquor license (or lack thereof), but I did find the under 21 to be an interesting suggestion. I don't take my DS to the restaurant because he'd be happy with chicken nuggets so I can't justify the $$ for him to eat there ... but I honestly can't say I've been bothered by anybody else's children there. That being said, it might make for a better dining experience just having it be quieter overall, so its a neat idea. Never thought about how crowded it is before in there, but less tables and the same amount of servers would definitely help since I've never had service that I thought was equivalent to the price tag at BB. But we go because we love filet mignon and creme brulee and the atmosphere is great so I guess they feel like they don't need enough servers all the time since we're drinking the Kool Aid anyways?

Nothing like super dark restaurant dining to make you think whoever you're with is super hot :lmao:

Yeah, my idea was to make it an "special," event-type restaurant. Not 'exclusive' (like Club 33, for example), but special enough to merit a smaller audience.

I can see that. My kids loved it, but it would be nice to have it be romantic and a little more special. Hmmm

The Blue Bayou seems to be hit or miss. I have had 'okay' experiences there, but a family friend mentioned to me that she hadn't eaten there, and so I treated her to a meal before she moves up to San Francisco (later this summer).

My son ordered the steak, I ordered the salmon, and she ordered the monte cristo. We ate family style. The food was very good, and the service was excellent this trip around. Also, our table was by the water, so that added even more to our enjoyment.

I don't go there often, but our experience on 9 July was excellent!
