When DD and I go in 2 weeks, our plan is to split a lot of our meals. We figure that way we can eat more frequently.

When we go to BB we want to share an entree so we have room for dessert. Should we ask for an extra plate? Won't that look strange that only one of us is ordering an entree? Or is it better to pay the $12? Will that get each of us sides?

When I was there I ordered a dessert as my meal, so if one of you orders an entree and one of you orders a dessert you will probably be fine, but you will have to eat them at the same time if you order ice cream, otherwise it will melt!

I would think that if you ordered an extra plate and only one entree, they are probably going to figure it out that you are splitting the meal. I am not sure anyone if the $12 fee includes separate sides anymore, but I believe that it used to (before the fee was raised). Hopefully someone else will jump in and confirm. I would just pay the split plate fee and not worry about it myself. And you can share the dessert no problem. I love dessert, but I do not think that I would be able to eat more than half of that Cookie Boat after my meal at BB!

It is fine to just ask for an extra plate - they will not charge you for that and people do it all the time. If you ask them to split the meal, you will both get sides and they will charge the $12. Unless you both want sides, I would just ask for the extra plate and then share the dessert after dinner.

That is correct... if you request an additional plate they will not charge you the 12 split plate fee. However, for the 12 dollar split plate fee, they will provide each of you your own side salad or gumbo, and a full serving of blue bayou potatoes (which I think are super yummy) and seasonal vegetables. It makes it seem like more of a whole meal. It will all depend on your appetite.

My wishes finally came true in April when my wife surprised me with reservations to BB! We were going to split something but soon realized that they experience just would not be complete just sharing one meal. It really just depends on yourappetite, but definitely eat light throughout the day of your visit and save room for desert (the creme brule is sooo good!). All in all I really enjoyed my visit to BB, and will return every time we visit Disneyland.

My dd and I just did this. We didn't want all of the sides and extras that come with splitting so we just told our server upfront that we didn't want to pay the $12 and he was cool as could be about it. As others have said, people do it all the time.

We ordered a big meal--filet mignon and lobster. It was so delicious!! We then split the creme brulee dessert and had coffee. Neither of us could have held another bite. It was a fabulous dinner and we had a wonderful time!! We didn't waste any food and we didn't break the bank.

One little thing I've noticed in the past few years. If you tell them you want to wait for a waterside table, they will always tell you "it will be at least 45 minutes," regardless of how full/empty the waiting area is. We got wise to that sometime back and we just say that's fine, we'll wait. We never wait more than 10 minutes and usually only about 5, but that's for 2 of us. When my family of 5 all go, it might take 15-20 minutes sometimes but we've never had to wait long (except for the time when they lost our tag). So, just a heads up about the "it will be at least 45 minutes" line. I think they've been instructed to say that to discourage people from waiting for a waterside table.

Dizme, thanks for the advice. I think we'll do what you and your dd did. We don't need extra sides. She won't eat gumbo or salad so I'll eat that. She can have the potatoes and we'll share the veggies.

We have an 11:30 seating. We'll go early and request a waterfront table. Since it's just the 2 of us, I don't mind waiting.

As for the split plate fee, when we went back in march our waiter was even the one who suggested that we just order the one entree and have them send out and extra plate instead of the split plate fee (we ended up going with the split plate because we both wanted sides) so I would definitely suggest going that route if you don't need the extra sides, which it doesn't sound like you do.
