Blue Bayou vs Cafe Orleans?

Hey everyone,

I have been to Blue Bayou every time I have gone on my last 4 trips, but have never made it to Cafe Orleans. Since I have done Blue Bayou so much, I am wanting to shake things up and doing dinner at Cafe Orleans instead, but I was wondering what people think of the two compared to each other.

I really want the Mickey Beignets, but I don't want that to influence me TOO much.

We like it. The Blue Bayou to us was incredible ambience, but the food/prices? Just ok to us. We prefer to sit on the patio and enjoy gumbo and pomme frittes. Love the food. We'll do that almost every day we're there. Blue Bayou is one of those places we do about every 4th or 5th visit.

can't comment on the BB but we did cafe Orleans twice for lunch. Gumbo was EXCELLENT, pomme frites great and the biegnets were SOOOOO good! ts nice to sit outside and enjoy the atmosphere.

For me, Blue Bayou is more about the atmosphere and experience than anything (and much less about the food). So if you don't care about that, Cafe Orleans has good food (IMO). We at at both last time!

Thanks for the input everyone. Unfortunately we will only be there for a day so we don't have the time or appetites for sit down lunch and dinner. Took a look at the menu, it seems to have some carryover and I never mind saving some money since BB can get pricey.

I think we will have to check it out, it will be nice to sit outside and enjoy New Orleans Square.

And I forgot about the pommes frites, thanks for mentioning that, those sound great too!

I love both places. Blue Bayou is definitely more of an "atmosphere" place. I do feel, though, that going to the BB is the main point of my day when I eat there. I like to wait for a waterside table, and that can take a while. I also couldn't see rushing around after eating a filet mignon. But that's just me.

I love Cafe Orleans as well! The atmosphere is different but I also enjoy it. It is nice to sit outside and watch the people rush by you. I love the feel of New Orleans Square and this lets me sit and take it all in. Also, the pommes frites are one of my all time favorite foods anywhere.

I say go for Cafe Orleans this trip!

I’d do BB for the ambiance; I have heard the food is good. I went once YEARS and I remember it being VERY good! Besides it’s quiet in BB! And it’s a escape from reality for an hour!

I prefer Cafe Orleans becuase I prefer to be outside. For me, it's a Monte Cristo and frites anyhow which is served at both. Hubman loves the seafood crepe. I always make a reservation for it just to avoid the wait, even if it's made while we're on our way to the park that morning.

I was wondering the same thing and went to allears.net and read the menus pretty carefully. Money aside, I much prefer the CO menu to the BB one. For ambiance we love BB, but I called and changed my reservation. We liked the CO menu and the prices, plus we figure we can ride Pirates over and over again.

It was a hard decision since we've eaten at BB every trip to DL...

Glad to see I'm the not only one who always ends up in BB. I really like the ambiance too and to be honest, I think the best food is the gumbo, which they have at CO anyway. There are so many "non-Entree" dishes that I want, I may end up just splitting an entree and get gumbo, pommes, beignets and who knows what else.

Depends what time of year you're going. I usually make one just to avoid the wait and make sure I get a table. Last time I went though it was the afternoon after the half marathon (which is also Labor Day weekend) and at around 11:00AM that day I was able to make a reservation for around 1:30PM.

We did both and enjoyed both this last trip. Service at C.O. was exceptional, table manager stopped numerous time to see if everything was OK, B.B. is a tradition we always enjoy.

When we went last time we were in the parks, we went on Sunday. We walked up Sunday afternoon (probably around 2 or 3) and asked for a dinner reservation. They had one around 6, so they made it for us and we all came back for dinner.

We just got back from DL on Monday, we went to BB for the first time and sadly say the last time. All 4 of us were very disappointed in the food, no taste. Also to make matters worse was how fast they rushed us, they even tried to take our plates before we had a chance to finish we had to ask them to stop. The best food by far located in the park was Ariels WOC.

Really??? I'm glad to hear that since we have a WOC dinner planned there. We had lunch at AG a long, long time ago and it was awful so I really wasn't looking forward to the dinner... Glad they made it better!

Sorry to hear your take on the BB. I think it is a victim of it's past success. It was our tradition (until this trip), and hard to get reservations. Then they raised the prices, shortened the menu, and started rushing people (we've experienced the same thing). Also, I noticed that the CMs at the podium have not been very nice. Sad, though. I really like it there. I think others must feel this way, too. I called for reservations yesterday for next week and it was wide open.

I agree! I ate at BB on Tuesday and when I gave the CM my name and reservation time, he just said "Okay" and walked away. I had to call him back (he was already across the room!) to tell him I'd like to wait for a waterside table. Every other time I had been they'd ask right away if you wanted to wait extra. It wasn't even a busy time (4:40ish) and there was only one party waiting to be seated. It was weird.

I would choose neither. We went to Cafe Orleans and frankly Disney is over-priced tourist food. You're in Los Angeles so there are literally thousands of better restuarants to choose from in that area. Next time I would probably go over to Knott's and try some of their fried chicken. I have heard rave reviews of that chicken and that the locals love it.
