atmosphere= great.
service= good.
food = very poor. would have been better off eating food from a vendor. my wife and I both ordered the prime rib, medium rare. We received prime rib, well done. Typical disneyland restaurant, getcha in-getcha out. The prime rib had probably been sitting under a heat lamp for a few hours. The steak we had at ESPN zone the previous night was ten times better and it was top sirloin. very disappointed. oh well, never again. at least we can say we have eaten there and thats about it. i am surprised it is always booked.

We ate there last week and loved it. My son (granted he is 5 and will eat anything that is meat, plus we order meat medium-well to well done) ate his entire prime rib in 5 minutes. I'm sorry you had a bad experience.

I'm glad your son liked it! We will never go back. Serving prime rib well done is a big NO-NO unless you ask for it that way. Especially in a disney restaruant clasified as, get this, "fine dining." The funny thing is, we were in vegas two weeks ago and I can honestly say, the primerib served at the mgm buffet was ten times better than at the blue bayou. Just kinda funny to me. I would have traded in my plate for a juicy eight dollar turkey leg!
Oh yea, and we had to stare at a pile of dirty dishes throughout our dinner. they placed one of those stands that holds dishes right in front of our table. The "bread girl" and the "water boy" both tripped over it but never moved it. Must have been there for a reason. Over cooked prime rib and dirty dishes. mmm, mmm!

That is too bad, we love Blue Bayou (but havent' been in awhile). Did you complain to a manager or ask to send your meat back? For those prices you should have, also they can't fix it or give you a discount unless you let them know! I think its booked because the atmosphere is so cool, everyone sees it from the ride and has to try it out for themselves. And somtimes at least the food is very good.

I'm sorry you did not enjoy your experience. We go to the BB for lunch, and while we don't particularly care for the new menu, we love the ambience, and usually eat the Monte Cristo.

I hope you made your disappointment known to management.

Fortunately, there are plenty of other restaurants at DLR for you to try!

I have to agree about Blue Bayou - for the price, it's just not worth it.

However, if you aren't really worried about price (let's face it, this is Disney), then the atmosphere of being "inside" a park attraction (kids love watching the Pirate's boats), makes it worthwhile. With 2 adults, a teen, and a pre-teen, we spent $125 plus tip. If you look at the price of going to Storyteller's for a character breakfast, it's almost the same price, but you don't get the characters.

On the flip side, my wife and kids loved the Cafe right across the street (New Orleans cafe?? - can't remember the name) - they had the gumbo and Caesar salad. Beignets for dessert!

Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen is the dtd restaurant. I agree - the meal there is outstanding (comparable to the meal we ate at Napa Rose).

No question that BB is overated. However, I am surprised about the prime rib. I do hope you sent it back. My meal was horrid (mahi mahi), but my dh had the prime rib and it was very good (I've had better, but it was yummy). However, I can understand - we once ate at Rose & Crown in WDW. Everybody raves about the prime rib. Mine was so tough I could barely chew it, plus it was drowned in garlic to the point it was disgusting (and I like garlic). I think that most Disney restaurants can be spotty.

That said, I will eat at BB again. We like the atmosphere enough to do it once on a trip. But, there are definitely better meals to be had at DL and for the posters that think that BB is the end all and be all - please try the upstairs dining room at the Jazz Kitchen and Napa Rose and then tell me what you think.

We didn't get to try Storytellers for dinner. Had an outstanding breakfast there though.

I'm sorry to hear this and like previous posters I hope you brought it to the attention of management. You may even want to send an E mail. If no one complains than we can't complain if it doesn't improve. Disney restaurants are the busiest on earth and usually do an alright job but if they are not performing up tp par we as consumers bear the burden of voicing our displeasure. Squeaky Wheel and all. Oh and we hate the turkey legs they don't taste right to us is it ham? is it turkey? Different strokes for different folks.

you know, anyone who's read any previous posts of mine on this subject, Ive always said the same thing as you...atmosphere being the best of the 3 and food being the worst...however, myself and eatmypixiedust went there a couple of weeks ago and I have to say that is probably the best meal Ive eaten there in YEARS!!!!!...she got the prime rib and I tasted a piece of it and it was very very good...I got the jambalaya and creme brulee trio...the jambalaya was very good and spicy...It filled me up so much that all I ate for dinner that nice was ice cream :laughing: the creme brulee trio was actually what I wanted to go there for and although it wasnt bad at all, the custard was very bland...the best parts of it were the cookies and the fresh raspberries on top of each ramekin...I will definitely go back at one point when im not on a mini trip again:) Im really sorry you had a bad experience but dont not go back...try it again and tell the waiter if the food isnt satisfactory to you and have them bring you another plate...after all it is expensive and your money...

Hmmm. After reading nothing but rave reviews about BB for a year, now two bad ones in one day. BB must have been having an off week!

We skipped this on our first trip to DL last fall, but after riding POTC we really want to try out BB. (You're right, we really just want to sit and enjoy the ambiance awhile!) So maybe we'll just go for dessert. I really want to try the creme brulee trio!

We would have had them take it back and redo it. We do that even at small places like TGI Fridays. We like some pink in our steak, and won't accept well done! Whether it's a $12 plate or a $30 plate! LOL

I agree that the atmosphere is probably why it's booked out all the time. We haven't ate there yet because of the price. We usually save our more expensive meals for the Character breakfasts.

When we were there last year we ate at the Blue Bayou also and I am sad to say that the food actually dissapointed me also! we have eaten there lots of times over the years but it was actually nasty for the most part...we did split a Monte Cristo sandwish and it was still pretty tasty but everything else we just could not eat. They have now changed the menu from what I've heard and I haven't had a chance to taste yet but we are going in June and are hoping for something better to happen. We'll keep our fingers crossed!:thumbsup2

Actually, Blue Bayou has always gotten mixed reviews. I have had some very good meals there and some so so ones. But overall, I enjoy it for the atmosphere and the convenience of having a full service meal inside the park. I have always preferred lunch over dinner but since they changed the menu lunch isn't the good deal it used to be. I think its like every DL restaurant, it will have its good days and bad days. They serve a huge number of people on a daily basis so the odds are not everyone will be happy. Now that I have been to WDW so many times and eaten at many of their themed, full service restaurants I have found that when you dine at Disney you have to expect great atmosphere and sometimes (not always) mediocre food at a high price. It sort of stinks but then again I think the food at DL and WDW is very good for theme park fare.

You certainly cannot give the BB any dings on atmosphere! I am sure the atmosphere is what hooks people in most of the time, it sure does get to me! I love that nice bit of darkness. As I said, I am going to give the food another try in June so I don't necessarily go by what others experience because with large amounts of food prep. it's hard to get it right all the time.

You know, when we were there in December, I had the braised short ribs...I've never seen anyone else mention ordering that particular dish...but they were absolutely fantastic...the meat just fell off the bone and the demi-glaze was delicious. The Tortuga Trio is a must...I loved it and the pirate chest that the cookies came in was a cool souvenir.

Honestly, it's a theme park restaurant, no matter how it may be billed. I would never expect to find "fine dining" in any park...not Epcot, not MGM, not DL. It's a nice place to eat with great ambience, although it was brighter over there than it looks from the POTC dock. Trick lighting, I guess.

At any rate, I would have thought you could have easily asked for a replacement. They've always seemed agreeable to replacing meals at any place in the park.
