How much in advance do I need to make a ressie?

hiya! I ate at the BB for the first time on 8/13, so lets see if I can answer some of these:
How much in advance do I need to make a ressie?
I made mine literally a week in advance and got a good 5:20 seating. I'm not sure if there's too much concern on when to make them unless you're going during a high-crowd time.
Is it possible to split a plate? (It seems like the portions are huge)
Yup. I believe there's $12 dollar split-plate fee, because that way you'd both get a salad or gumbo, as well.
How long does it take you seat you if you have PS?
We had a PS for 5:20 pm, arrived a 5:00 because we were hungry and wanted a waterside table. We requested a waterside table, and the hostess said it would be 20-30 minutes of a wait. We were seated at 5:15 pm, 5 min before our reservation. They really try to move people in and out quickly, so the wait wasn't really long for anyone.

Did you like it?
We loved it. My dad and I had a waterside table, not right in the center, but we could see the loading area for POTC and enjoy the boats without being distracted by them. My dad had the chicken, and I had the short ribs, both were great. He had the chopped salad, and I had the gumbo, again both were great. We finished our meal off with the famous cookie boat. It was well worth it, especially the BB potatoes!

1. Disney Reservations allows you to make a reservation up to 60 days in advance. If the day that you want to make the reservation on is a busy day (like Saturday or Sunday), then the earlier you get it, the better. There have been times where I call the day before to check for availability and they still have reservations available.

2. You can definiltey split a plate, and they charge an additional $12.00.

3. If you have a reservation, you are seated almost immediately. If you want to sit somewhere in particular, it is best to arrive 15 minutes before your reservation time so that they have plenty of time to accomodate you.

4. The Blue Bayou is AMAZING!!! It's romantic atmosphere IMO cannot be beat. The food is great, service is great, and your food comes to your table quickly. I definitely think it's the best dining experience at Disneyland.

DS and I split the Monte Cristo last month ~ we were not charge the fee, they brought it out on 1 plate, gave us a 2nd plate ~ we got 1 side (not 1 side each) (DS chose the gumbo) ~ it was plenty for the 2 of us and DS likes to eat.

I was just going to chime in, the portions are definitely big enough to share. We never finish our meals when eating there. You don't have to pay the split fee if you just ask for an extra plate, the split fee covers the kitchen staff doing the split and them giving you each your own sides. Have the cookie boat for dessert and enjoy!

We arrived at 11:20am for an 11:30 reservation for 3 and were seated almost immediately at a waterside table. The table was toward the center and right next to the servers station but this didn't bother us. We had a great view of the boats going by and my nephew enjoyed waving to people while we waited for our meal.

Food is very pricey but plentiful and the ambience is just wonderful. My wife and I did not share a meal but we should have. They give you lots!

We were at the Blue Bayou on Wednesday and DBF and I shared the salmon. We didn't want to be charged an extra $12 for essentially a side salad (or gumbo if you prefer), so they just gave us an extra plate and we divided the meal up ourselves. I highly recommend doing it that way. It was too much food! I have been dying to try the Flying Dutchman and I was too full. Next time, we are just going for dessert and coffee.

The potatoes were delicious though! YUMMM

Just to clarify something:

Yes, you can share a meal.

If you ask for an extra plate, you will get just that. 1 meal and an extra plate

If you ask to split the meal, they will serve it to you on 2 plates, split it for you, provide an additional salad (so each person gets 1, and charge a "split plate" fee.

It may seem like simply semantics, but it means 2 different things to your server.
