I want to eat lunch at Blue Bayou but there isn't anything light on the menu that would appeal to me. I was wondering if I can just get gumbo and a salad? The monte cristo sounds awesome but it is too heavy and I know DH will end up getting one and I can just have a bite.

Not a problem, go and enjoy.

You can split the Monte Cristo with your husband but there will be a charge of $12 and you will each get either the salad or the gumbo...:)

Just to tie together the two previous posts...at Blue Bayou, there are no separate appetizers on the menu, so you can't just order a gumbo or a salad by itself - they come with your entree. If you want your own gumbo or salad (you pick one), but would like a bite of your DH's sandwich and sides, then you'll want the split plate charge, which as a previous poster mentioned is $12. If you just want to pick off of is sandwich, you can ask for an empty plate, but you won't get your own cup of gumbo or salad. The gumbo is a small cup, not a bowl big enough for a meal.

If you want something light, I've had the chicken breast and didn't think it was too heavy at all.

You sure can, we have done it twice, all we did is ask. Or maybe it was my charm.

Oh cool, good to know! Do you remember what they charged, since it's not on the menu?

Have to ask the boss when she gets back. I have a tendency to ask for things others may not..I am paying, why not.

Jack

Thanks Jack. I'd rather not spend $12 for the pleasure of eating a bite of my husband's sandwich. A small cup of gumbo and a salad will leave plenty of room for other yumminess in the park. Must eat some of everything.

Not very hungry while at the Blue Bayou? I would highly recommend the ? Island Chicken. Not a lot to it, rather light, might be a better description. :cool1:

Just because something is not on the menu does not mean you can't order it. I have ordered just the potatoes & veggies before. My daughter got butter noodels as a kid, since she doesn't eat red sauce.

Jack, $8.95 for a bowl of Gumbo? Sounds like the best deal they have. Will have to remember that. Thanks a lot........hootey....:cool1:

I didn't know you could order just a bowl of Gumbo...Jack, was it the full size or the cup size? Just a quick fyi, the chicken is the Tesoro Island Chicken and it is very very good! It's what I usually order at BB. :)

I was a bowl, not the cup size..not sure the bossis right on the price but that is what she remembers.

I have a similar question, since the menu doesn't look apettizing to my kids. Which is the possibility that they let them order from the kids menu? They're 12 & 10, and I know the menu is for ages 9 and under :headache:.

The official rule is that children who are over 9 can order from the children's however it will be a "double/double" deal. IE, they will receive double the food for double the price on the kid's menu. You other option is to do the double/double and have them share, don't split it, just ask for an extra plate and have them share. If you split it's an additional $12 charge (but they will each get a starter and extra sides are served as well). DD15 is pretty picky but she likes the Tesoro Island Chicken at BB and the ribs as well, I didn't like the ribs as much but she did.

We've always found that the sit down restaurants at Disney (and most other places) will accommodate whatever you need. We've ordered appitizers for a meal, even ordered things not on the menu. I remember that we ordered a root beer float at the Sci Fi Diner at the Studios at WDW. It wasn't on the menu but that's want we really wanted. Disney restaurants are usually very accommodating.

We were at Disneyland over Thanksgiving weekend and ate at the BB. My kids are also 12 and 10 and both were able to eat from the kid's menu. My kids (especially the 12 yo) tend to be picky eaters and I've never had a CM give us a problem with ordering from the kid's menu. I think they understand what it's like to have picky eaters.

Thanks both! I will try either of these suggestions. :wizard:

You there is no age limit for the kids menu so you could always order something off the kids menu for BB
