Any preference? DH and I will be going here while my mom watches the kids. Plan is to feed them first and then have them go on the train or head over to Fantasyland while hubby and I eat. Just not sure which would be better. Kids are more sleepy after lunch so it may make it easier on my mom.

Also, when I call to reserve, can I choose an outside table- right next to the ride? Or do they just put us wherever? We will be there September 26-30 and I was thinking of the Tuesday for this meal. I've heard it's not a super busy time but don't really know.

Thanks

Casey

I think it's very considerate of you to think about what is best for your mom since she is babysitting. :thumbsup2

We usually do lunch, some people prefer dinner. :confused3 I don't know if there is a difference in the menu.

They won't take sitting preferences by phone, so make sure you get 10 minutes prior your reservation time and ask for a table by the water. It will take a little bit longer but it is worth it for the experience.

We usually do lunch, we like it better for whatever reason. :) If you get an 11:30 PS you will be guaranteed to get a waterside table, any other time you have to ask for it. For instance we did BB for DBF's bday lunch Jan of 09, I made us a PS at 11:30 on a Monday but we had to cancel so he called, cancelled and made a PS for the following day, they had less seats available so we ended up making one for 12:45, we got there at about 12:15 (yes 30 min early but that was OK with us, we were ready for a break by then) and checked in requesting waterside seating, we told the hostess we were aware we were very early but we were ready to sit for a while so she checked us in, DBF asked for waterside and she sighed and said "hold on" left, came back a couple minutes later and said (rather snottily) "it's going to be about 30 minutes past your reservation time if you wait for waterside" we said "that's fine, we will wait" and we went and sat down on one of the cushy benches. DBF's name was called less then 10 minutes after we sat down to wait.....LOL So if you request waterside, be prepared for the attitude you might get but wait, it's absolutely worth it. :)

The menus are different depending on if its dinner or not. Here is a link to allears.net Disneyland menus.

If you want the famouns Monte Cristo, you will have to eat there for lunch. The best way to get a waterside table without a huge wait is to make a reservation for their earlies lunch, which is 11:30, then arrive 15 - 20 min early and ask for waterside table.

Not sure how this will work out for your Mom, but if they are planning on doing park time, it might be better if your kids are not sleepy. I know sometimes kids can get grumpy when they are tired.

Can your Mom feed them lunch at a counter service while you are eating? not sure how many kids you have or ages.

It all depends what you want to eat. Make sure to look at allears.

We made the first dinner reservation, maybe 4:30, and had no problem having a waterside table but YMMV. It was nice to have a relaxing meal with my husband inside the park!

My Mom and son had so much fun that they went off on their own again after we met up. So we went to DCA and went on the adult, scarier, rides. May I just say that California Screaming made me scream alright!

This was our experience, too. The hostess gave us attitude and a 30 minute wait time, but we were actually seated 5 minutes later, lol! I think they just have to discourage people or EVERYONE would ask for a waterside table. ;)

My DD16 and I had an unfortunate experience at BB in April. We had a PS and showed up fifteen minutes early and indicated that we wanted to wait for waterside table. We then waited 30+ minutes during which time many walk ups diners were seated for lunch ahead of us. I had no problemwith that because I knew it was because we had requested waterside. When we were finally escorted to a table by a young man, who I suspect was in-training, it turned out to be one row from the BACK of the restaurant! Not only was our table not near the water, the table in the row that was next to ours (but closer to the water) was empty. I must have been in momentary shock standing there, during which time the castmember disappeared. When the waitress showed up, I explained that we had waited for a waterside table and that this was not what we were expecting. She went off to see what could be done, while I looked around to see several of the walkup diners sitting closer to the water than we were (the empty, closer table was now filled, too). When the waitress came back, and said that there was nothing waterside or closer currently available and that it would be a wait. My DD and I thanked her for checking, then left. It is just too much $$ to spend on a lunch that had started off so badly. I think we would have sat there unhappy with our location the whole meal. We went and had a lunch in Rancho del Zocalo's outdoor seating. It's setting is not quite so spectacular, but it is lovely and at less than half the cost. Someday, we will go back, and try again for our waterside meal.

Thanks everyone. I made the reservation for 1:00 but I may change it and make it earlier. I don't want my mom to have to feed the kids because they are 4 and 20 months and my little guy can be a handful. I think if we go after they eat he will be sleepy and content riding in the stroller. He LOVES trains so my mom thought it would be great to ride the train all the way around the park.

Thanks for the tips. We'll ask for waterside table and see what happens.
