Blue Bayou - lunch or dinner questions

Now I am confused and have been there many times. We were told that the earliest was 1130 and she did add us for waterside but it is not a shoe in, have to show up early and request again.

The first PS is 11:30 not 11:00, you are correct Jack. Every time I've mentioned waterside they've told me to check in by 11:15 and ask at the podium, they can't take requests over the phone for tables. We get there around 11:10-15 and ask for waterside then, we usually get it with no problems.

Exactly the same approach I have always used. I thought for a second that they had changed the lunch times. We are going on my birthday this year(my dgf insists).

Just curious if there are any suggestions on eating at the BB for lunch vs dinner? Is the food so heavy that it's hard to go right back into Park Commando? I'm concerned about doing a heavy lunch and then being miserable the rest of the day.

We have only had the portobello dish (as we are vegetarian), and we've split it each time, and we are still SO FULL that it's hard to get moving.

My brother, a marathon runner who can eat quite a bit when he's training, could only eat half of his MC (plus a bit of the meat from the other half) and he was stuffed. He didn't eat his sides as he's not a veggie eater (but I think he had the soup as his starter). That sandwich is VERY heavy, even if you don't eat it all, it seems.

The Disney Dining people don't care either way where you want to sit. The people who care are the ones checking you in...to get a waterside table you have to be a party the size that will fit at those tables, and you have to either be among the first to check in, or wait for someone already at the tables to finish their meals and open up that table. :)

Taht said, I'm not a fan of waterside. Too dark.

We made the mistake of getting 2 meals (for me and DS11) because of the split plate charge. The waiter said we forgo the split plate charge, and he'd give us an extra plate, but no extra salad/soup for free. I wish we'd taken him up on it since DS didn't like the gumbo anyway. We were going to the hotel right afterward, so we took our extra food home. There was enough left over that we had dinner and STILL had some leftovers!

We've been there twice now for the 11:30 seating and both times we were told by the BB CM's that all 11:30 seatings are waterside. I've heard occasionally on different forums complain that this wasn't always the case, but I've never had this issue.

I hate to say it but we have been there at least 15+ times and only one time back in 97 where we did not get waterside. Two years ago we were let into the waiting area at 1110(PS at 1130) and were seated waterside(6 of us) by 1120.

So my 11:30 reservation for next month should work fine to get DH and me at a waterside table? As long as we are there by 11:15?

Should work just fine. The place does get a bit noisey though. Have a great time.

Thanks for the info!! We're really looking forward to it after reading so much about the BB here.

... sometimes the CM will tell you that a waterside table won't be ready for an hour or more; it's like the CM is hoping that you will choose to sit elsewhere. ...

We had no problems getting a waterside table on Sunday, June 28. :goodvibes

Our PS time was 11:30am, and we checked-in at 11:20.

After we were seated, there were still 2 waterside tables that stayed empty during the lunch hour.

We really enjoyed our lunch! BB is a great location, and I liked the service and the food. I enjoyed the Monte Cristo. My DS7 and DD6 ate the roast beef (from the children's menu) and they loved the Cookie Boat dessert.

The Blue Bayou offers these delicious little gems, called Mint Doubloons. They are thin chocolate mints, that are made at Disneyland. They are simply delish! Now my taste buds would like one, or two....... oh my! :)
Last year, I ended up visiting Dl. by myself, and I made a p.s. for the Blue Bayou.
I arrived early, so as to request waterside seating, this was for a 2:10 p.s. and I was seated in less than 10 minutes. I had arrived a bit earlier from what many might, but it was a hot day, and I would rather have the best chance possible to sit where I prefer, and be out of the heat. So I arrived about 30 minutes or so early. I was impressed, that not only was I able to be seated by the waterside, by myself, but so soon too. That all made me very happy.

Disney's website doesn't have Cafe Orleans listed as a PS restaurant. Is it possible that it is and the Disney website doesn't have it listed?

Cafe Orleans used to be a counter service restaurant. That may be why its not listed under the ps offerings. Although it turned into a full service over two years ago so they should have it listed as such.
