Blu-Ray player advice

As I said in an earlier post, I have the Sony BDP-360. Liked it so much, I mananaged to score a second one.

Keep in mind, these are Blu-ray players with BD-Live built-in (and since they are from last year, there is no wireless access, nor can you access Netflix, Facebook, etc.). Networking is not a problem as I have both units plugged into the TVs U-verse box (which accepts Cat 5 network cables).

So far, no major problems and I love them both.

And, yes, I do recommend Sony over the "bargain" brands (Magnavox, Sylvania, etc.) as Sony was one of the inventors of the Blu-ray format and they offer upgrades, as necessary.

While some cost more than others, I can say I am extremely happy with my Samsung. One thing I can tell you for sure is to make sure you can connect it to the internet (either wired or wireless), even if you don't plan on streaming through Netflix or any of the others. Blu-Ray disks are always changing and getting the software updates on your player can mean a big difference between playing that must-see movie or not.

True, but for those who cannot connect their players to the internet, all is not lost.

You can normally go directly to the manufacturer and order a (free) upgrade disc that you simply pop-in the player.

Many of them also have slots for SD cards - save the file to a blank SD on your computer and then move it to the BD player.

Or burn a CD of the update file from your computer (you don't get the disc free that way but it is certainly faster than waiting on the mail). :)
