I went to buy Beauty and the Beast last week, and I had to go to two different stores (Target didn't have it) to find the DVD only copy of the movie. It seems that everyone is selling the DVD/Blu Ray combo pack these days.

I'm curious, though.. is a Blu Ray player really worth it? I have a very nice LCD TV, a nice DVD player that I just bought around 3 years ago, and a nice Disney DVD collection! Should I spring for a Blu Ray player? Does anyone know if it will become more difficult to find just DVDs in the somewhat short term (next couple of years)?

Thanks!

If your TV isn't "Full HD" (1080p), it's not worth it. If it IS, you don't know what you're missing!

My dad has a blu-ray player, and the difference is amazing! I usually buy my Disney movies on blu-ray dvd combo pack- if you sign up for Disney movie rewards, they usually release a coupon before the movie is released on blu-ray for the combo pack. It makes it more affordable to get them on blu-ray, and the coupon has actually made most of the blu-ray combo packs cost the same as the regular DVD version. :goodvibes

re: the 1080p comment, that really depends on the size of your TV. We have a a smaller HDTV, and with an HD of our size (32"), the difference between 720 and 1080 is unnoticeable. If we sat much closer to the TV, it may make a difference.

On our Blu-Rays, we see so much more detail that we missed with standard definition--it does true justice to the animation. Beauty and the Beast is breathtaking! :goodvibes

ETA: I thought a Blu-Ray player would be nice, but wasn't looking to buy one (thought it was a bit of a waste, to be honest!). Then last year my husband bought a PS3, and as soon as we popped in that first Blu-Ray, my mind was changed. I was happy without one, but am so gad I have one now!

Blu-ray is nice but I think more people are buying the combo set since the coupon makes them the same price if not cheaper than buying the DVD version alone.

I dont care much about the quality but i buy blu ray(especially disney) if they have better bonus features then reg dvd
