BLT wheelchair accessible villas

Kathy, so we just got off the phone and long story short, the only way to guarantee that we get at least two bathrooms with roll-in showers is to get either 2 HA 1-bedroom villas and request that they be adjoining or to get 1 deluxe studio and 1 1-bedroom villa (both fully HA) and request that they be adjoining. She said if you just ask for a 2 bedroom fully HA villa it would most like have 1 roll-in shower with the other 2 bathrooms having bath tubs. My grandma doesn't need a roll-in shower. She could manage with a shower that has a little step up into it as long as she has grab bars.

You know that adjoining does not mean connecting, right? That just means that they are close by to each other. Two one bedrooms will never connect to each other. And since they said that a two bedroom will not have more than one handicap accessible bathroom, you probably won't get a lockoff one bedroom and studio to make a two bedroom either.

Deb and Bill - I had not thought about that. I had assumed that adjoining meant connecting. Do they have adjoining accessible studios and 1-bedroom villas? I think it would be ok if they had a wheelchair accessible studio near a wheelchair accessible 1-bedroom villa but do they even offer that? What do you suggest we do?

I thought they already told you they didn't have a two bedroom with both bathrooms handicap accessible. That would mean no HA studio connecting to a HA one bedroom.

You may need to look at two separate HA rooms and hope they are somewhat close to each other. Or take a two bedroom with the master HA with roll in shower and both of you use the same bathroom.

deb and bill - No my grandma definitely needs her own bathroom. Is there a way to make sure that if we get two HA rooms that they are near each other? We need to be close to my grandma.

That could be very difficult. You may need to book through the special medical needs department. And it won't be through DVC. You may need to just look at two hotel rooms.

.

As I mentioned a couple of times above there are connecting HA studios and HA 1BR's in the lakeview cateogry so that's an incorrect assumption from what MS stated. There have been multiple reports and pictures of xx12/xx14 which are connecting and are the HA rooms with roll in showers. MS had to have been referring to dedicated 2BR's.

Hi Kathy. Yeah, I've seen the pictures of the xx12/xx14 villas. I think those would be fine but I don't know if they have 1 bathroom with a roll-in shower and another bathroom with at least a stall shower setup with grab bars (meaning it might have a little step into a stall shower but it wouldn't be a bathtub with a shower head overhead that my grandma would not be able to climb in and out of). I haven't been able to find this out and sort of am at a dead end. I'm pretty sure studio 7614 has a regular shower stall with a glass door and small step up into it as well as a bathtub/shower combination but I'm not 100% positive.
