BLT waitlist question

After hemming and hawing around, we finally decided to try to change our current 2/10 through 2/15 reservation at BLT from a lakeview studio to a one bedroom lake or standard view. With then 12 and 14 yr old boys, my husband and I need the space! I called, and they could only put me on the waitlist for both, not to expire until 7 days before the reservation. The did have a one bedroom for the 10th and 12th. Member services suggested I waitlist for the entire time, and keep my current reservation, instead of switching out the two nights available. Am I making a mistake not to grab the 2 days available, or would doing that cancel the rest of my current reservation?

My situation was a little different in that I was only missing one day in a string of 9, but I booked all the days and booked a cash night for the night I was missing since it was available. I then waitlisted that cash night but if it doesn't come through I will pay the <yikes> $468 for the room, a 1 bedroom at BLT.

I am booked from Mar 8 - Mar 17 with the 15, (a Monday?) being the only day not available. With any luck they add more inventory and free up that room for me.

Is it worth it for you to do the same?

Probably not. As much as I'd like the extra space, the cost of the cash reservation sounds really high. I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed-we had luck with a waitlist for one day this summer, maybe pixie dust will hit twice! I'm hoping someone on the disboards with wait list experience can help with whether I should grab the two days available and whether taking that would cancel my other reservation.

I stayed at BLT last month and the studio rooms are... how shall I say... very quaint. With 12 & 14 year olds you will (most likely) want a 1 bedroom. But, I agree with MS that you should waitlist the entire stay. BLT adds new inventory as DVC sells new memberships. So you have a decent chance of getting the reservation. I waitlisted a studio LV room and it came through 8 days before my booked reservation at VWL. Long story short... we were the first people to stay in that room. Ever. Most of BLT is empty (or at least it was when I was there). Overall BLT is top notch and I loved every minute of our time there. We stayed in room 8406 and we had not only a view of BL, but also MK!!!

The question I always ask myself when deciding on a waitlist is "am I willing to stay in what I have booked"? In your case - would you be willing to move back and forth between a studio and the 1 bedroom if you took the currently available days and waitlisted for the others? If not then stick with the waitlist for the whole time. If your willing to do the move if the waitlist didn't come thru then you probably would have a better chance in waitlisting for the shorter times. Personally I'd waitlist for the whole time and not mess with individual days.

Another option if you're worried about the size of the accomodations is to book a 1 BR at another resort and waitlist for the 1 BR at BLT. I've already given up two different MK view ressies at BLT because of the changed plans and deciding on either larger accomodations or longer stays. Both times MS has been incredulous that I was doing it but I know I'll stay there sometime and I'd rather be comfortable than squished on my vacations.

We've stayed at SSR, BWV and BCV, so I'm trying to use this ressie to check out a different area. If it doesn't come through we'll be really cramped, but its still at Disney.Its got to be better than Cincinnati in winter!

I know your stay includes President's weekend, but I think you have a reasonable chance of the waitlist working. 1 Bedrooms are usually the last to fill up and as BLT continues to sell, there will be more inventory added. Since our waitlist for a standard view 1 bedroom for the week after Thanksgiving came through, I am optimistic that yours will as well. Most of the rooms are lake view so that is in your favor, too.

Hope it comes through very soon. I HATE waiting, LOL.
