BLT question?

I'm not sure where I should post this, so sorry if it's in the wrong place. I am interested in a 1br at BLT and noticed that there is a door in the living room area that opens onto the balcony. I have a 5 yr. old and am not really comfortable with that since I wouldn't be sleeping in that room with him and my other kids.

My question is...could the pullout twin/chair be moved a bit to put in in front of the door? In all of the pictures I have seen the door is located right behind that chair. But, are there different room configurations where the setup is not like that? Thanks for your help!

We stayed with small kids a couple months back and yes you are able to block the door with some of the furniture as that is what we did. We did not feel comfortable AT ALL with the balcony as it is very dangerous and easy for a child such as yours to climb up and try to jump over. I've written to DVC (as I believe many others have) and have gotten some feed back but nothing that is satistfactory yet. But rest assured............the door can be blocked.

Please don't let this take away from your BLT experience. It is by far our favorite resort and you'll love it.

We were just there last month and had the same concerns. We moved the standing lamp in front of the door (didn't want it to get pulled down on top of someone) and then moved the pull out chair in front of that. I think the most helpful, though, was that there was a pull down shade over the door. So we just left that down the entire time, never used that door, and I'm not even sure the kids knew there was a door behind it. We had a wonderful trip, it was great being able to walk to and from the MK, I am sure you will have a GREAT time!

On another recent thread, some members mentioned that there is a childproof lock on the balcony door. However, another member who was staying in one of BLT's handicapped accessible villas mentioned there was no lock on the balcony door in that villa.

Last month DW couldn't get the door unlocked so I would expect that it would be a challenge for little ones.

What about requesting a low floor? What is the lowest level that there are rooms on? Do they have patios along with the large window?

My 7 year old was trying to scale the balcony wall on our last trip to see over the railing. Thank God I was out there to tell him to stop. We were on the 12th floor so needless to say I was pretty concerned after that. It is a great view but kids need to be supervised out there. I'm really surprised Disney didn't think of some way to make it safer. Then again, think of cruise ships. Those balconies are death traps. I can't believe more kids don't fall off. Scary.
