BLT late check-out question

I was at BLT a couple of weeks ago and just have a question about a late check-out. I had inquired to the front desk CM about extending our check-out from 11:00am to noon. I was politely told "sorry we don't offer any late check-outs for the villas." This contradicts information I've found on other websites. I'm just wondering if anyone has had this same experience or if that policy is correct. I was only looking for an hour and this would've really helped my morning plans that day.

I did love BLT and have very few issues, mainly the waterfall shower that drips cold water when you switch to the other sprayer, and some loose bathroom fixtures. That's about it!

NO LATE CHECK OUTS! I assume you got into your villa on time? If so, you can thank the NO LATE CHECK OUT policy for that. The villas take a lot longer to clean than a regular hotel room. If you want late check out, you can always pay more points for an additional day's stay.

Actually I didn't get into my villa until about 10:00pm because I was at Epcot watching Illuminations. I would think that many would be in my situation of spending the majority of day 1 inside the parks, not requiring room access until much later in the day. I would think from a housekeeping standpoint that would make things a little less frantic as the cleaning could be spread out a little more.

One last thing, is your caps lock sticking? :goodvibes

But that was your choice to not get into your room until 10:00 pm. That doesn't mean it wasn't available at 4:30. Did you not check in at all until 10:00, or did you "pre" check in and just not go to your room until then?

The real question should be when was your room available, not necessarily when you when you got there...from 11-4 mousekeeping needs time to get thru the rooms so that members can check in .... if you choose to go after illuminations, that is your choice. If you were to check out late it would impact the guest coming in after you, sorry... but that just doesn't sound very fair....

I guess I'm a little confused as to why checking out at 11 should have been so difficult if you planned to check out at 12? If it's just an hour, coudn't you spend that time having a nice lunch or cruising the shops in the lobby?

We usually have a late flight on check out day. We also usually get our stuff packed up and down to Bell services by about 9:00 am. That way we can spend the day playing until it's time to head to the airport. Sure, it means we might have to have a change of clothes ready in our carry on bags (temps in Minnesota are not necessarily condusive to Florida clothing), but there is no real need to stay in our villa past check out time.

there is a difference between the WDW resorts and DVC.

the WDW resorts do allow late check out if available for a price. If they are completely sold out for that night - they won't allow it either.

members had a choice once - for early check in or late check out - most of us voted for early check in.

that does not mean everytime you will get early check in - but you CAN

when dvc was new (92, 93, 94) they allowed both. but when it was plain that the maids couldn't clean the rooms on time if this was still allowed. they changed the policy

Actually, DVC's check-out time of 11:00 a.m. is pretty liberal considering it's a timeshare. Marriott, Hilton, and every other major timeshare brand in Orlando we've stayed at has a check-out time of 10:00 a.m. I'm actually quite surprised that DVC hasn't changed it to 10:00 a.m. to give the maids more time to turn the units over.

I totally agree with the 11:00 am check-out. I love being able to score an early check-in when we get there in the morning, but am willing to wait if I have to. The last several trips, my room has been ready when I arrive and that means so much when I've flown out of Pittsburgh early in the morning. However, I am willing to have Bell Services keep my bags if my room isn't ready, but I really appreciate being in by mid-afternoon. A later check-out time wouldn't allow this.

what other websites? every thing i've ever heard is "no late checkouts."

I found it on allears.net which I consider a VERY reliable website. Now I hope I don't get in trouble for posting a website.

From the site:

Check-out time is 11am. Express Check-out is available to all guests paying with a credit card, arrange for this service at check-in. A detailed hotel bill is delivered to your door by 7am. If the bill is correct you simply leave. Your room key serves as a Disney souvenir. Late Check-out of noon can be requested without additional cost (very limited availability). If you need Late Check-out, request it at Check-In and as soon as possible the morning of check out (the number of eligible rooms are limited).

...

I think the point I was making earlier was yes, I did get a text message saying that my room was available when I was in the parks, however, I would be willing to accept a later room availability in exchange for a late check-out. Hotels often offer this as a promotion in response to international customers who typically have either very early arrivals (they will offer an early check-in) or late departures (offering a late check-out). I'm not saying I should be entitled to early check-in and late check-out.

Allears.net is really a site that is geared toward cash guests at WDW and not DVC members. Check outs, for those paying cash to stay at Disney hotels is available on a limited basis.

That is probably the confusion. Points stays have a whole different set of rules than cash stays.

I just searched All Ears with your exact words and could not find a match. However, several of the non-DVC resort reviews had comments about receiving late check out, whild DVC resort reviews had comments about no late check out.

You may not need to check in before 10PM, but I'd venture a guess that you are in the minority.

Edited to add: I did find where you found the information on BLT. But I also found several other errors on the website regarding DVC resorts. It's a great website, but not flawless.

DVC isn't a hotel, it's a timeshare.

Disney hotels, which have an impressively-high occupancy level, still only average about 90% occupancy throughout the year. That means a resort like Pop Century could have 300 of its 3000 rooms vacant on any given night. The Beach Club will have 50 vacancies out of 500.

Hotels typically have the excess capacity to allow guests to stay a couple extra hours if necessary. Or in the case of early arrivals, they often have rooms which were vacant the night before to give out first thing in the morning.

Timeshares are much different. By design, occupancy is near 100% year-round. The limited housekeeping schedule and large villa size means that it takes quite a while to service rooms between guests.

Not all villas can be serviced at once, but the challenges of preparing hundreds of rooms within a 5 hour period don't allow for much flexibility. Each housekeeper has an assigned block of rooms and she needs to know that they are all accessible by 11am.

The key difference here is that as DVC members (or our guests if we let others use or rent our points) - we don't pay with a credit card for our stay. We use points. Sure, sometimes people will have a cc on file with the desk for room charging privleges - but that's not the same as paying for your room. Your room is paid for via points, not the credit card. And, as others have said, DVC resorts aren't hotel rooms, but timeshares. While that website is very good and generally reliable, it is pretty much geared more for the cash guest and more occasional visitor to Florida than your typical DVC member.
