BLT Lake View vs Standard View

Hello all. I'm planning a little far our, for April 2018 :)

I will be traveling with DM, DS 15, DD13, D-neice and her 2.5 year old. First, would we be cramped in a 1 bedroom at BLT? I am assuming the 2.5 year old could sleep in a pack and play. Second, I don't think I'll have enough points for MK view and I am trying to decide if spending the points on LV would be worth it or should I just get SV at that point? We stayed at BLT last April and booked LV. I was hoping to be on the outside of the C and requested it but we were put on the inside. The view was pretty but I kind of hate how you just look right into everyone's rooms from there and actually used more points. What kind of views should I expect withSV? Thanks

The standards are all on lower floors. Otherwise they are in the same location and are the same size rooms as the lake views except that there are also standards on the lower floors where the theme park view rooms are. The biggest complaint about the standards that I have seen is that, because of BLT's lack of sheers, when you have have the curtains open on the ground floor, all walkers by can see right in. Unless you are a BLT owner who can book 11 months out, the biggest problem you will likely face with standard view is that the rooms usually book full during the 11 month window and will be difficult to get at 7 months out, and that includes 1BRs which actually often fill in standard view before the studios do.

As to a 1BR being sufficient for your group, the space is acceptable because the living room area is quite large, and you get the second bathroom. You have five sleeping spaces with the king in the master, and the pull-out queen and the chair that pulls out to almost twin size in the living room. The pack and play provided may be a little small for a 2.5 year old so you might want to bring something else like an air mattress to sleep on.

Thank you! BLT is my home resort so I would definitely book at 11 months. I just don't see spending extra points on a LV and be disappointed like I was last time. If I have enough for MKV I would probably splurge because that view makes it worth it, to me. I have to say, however, That I would HATE being on a ground floor. I assume I could request to not be there I suppose.

Thanks again!

Theme Park view also has its issues if you are considering it. If you request and get high floor, 8 or above, it is fine, but it goes as low as 5th floor, where the view is not so good including because what you mainly see is the BLT parking lot. At least with standard if you get stuck on ground floor, you won't feel cheated out of your points like many feel when they are stuck on the lower theme park room floors.

Fingers crossed! We are going next month and have a TPV! I requested a higher floor :)

I own at BLT and I swore I heard they added or are adding shears to the windows.... anybody else remember this or was I just daydreaming??

We decided to cancel our standard 2bd in December bc we didn't want to take the chance that we end up on the ground floor. The extra points for lake wasn't exorbitant- I think 5pts/night extra.

I lived in NYC for 17yrs, oftentimes in high rises facing other buildings- left only 6 years ago when kiddo was born. In my opinion, a high rise facing ppls rooms is better than being ground floor any day...

I'm going to have to wait and see how much the difference is when the points charts come out for 2018. I was trying to figure based on 2017, but in 2017 our break is Easter week and 2018 Easter is April 1st, so we should be far enough away from it if we go mid-April.

^The length of the premier point period for Easter is always the same, running from the Sunday a week before Easter through the Saturday after Easter. All that changes is actual dates annually based on Easter's date, and thus a mid-April trip in 2018 will be in magic season.

I know my 2.5 year old won't sleep in a pack-n-play any more. We just took a cruise in Feb, and his first "big boy bed" was on the boat since all he would ever do is jump out of the pack-n-play. So you might need to reconsider for the D-niece daughter. I know it is far in advance but something to consider. As you mentioned the lake view can sometimes be a little less lake like. So decide if you will be in the room enough for it to matter if you have an inside lake view. If the points matter, then just get a standard. As a DVC member you'll still be able to access Top of the World for fireworks, and it will still be easy to see the water parade!

It all depends on your risk tolerance, doesn't it? We rented points for a 2 bedroom standard a couple years ago. We got a wonderful room on the highest possible standard view floor outside the C and we had a view of the fireworks, the castle, space mountain, and monorail. I was over the moon to have such a great view for such a "bargain" price. Looking at the view chart above, there are many more standard rooms outside the C than inside, and there are many more standard rooms above ground level than on. So the odds are decent of having a favorable room assignment, but only you can say if the odds are good enough for you to take the gamble. :)
