BLT Bridge to CR Closed

From what I hear . . .
. . . they did not anticpate so many people standing on the bridge for fireworks
. . . the weight overloads the bridge capacity
. . . they must now reinforce the structure
. . . just like the structural stress on the Yeti
. . . not enough true engineering

I highly doubt that this closure is structural in nature. If there is a weight limit and reinforcement needed, it would be a major undertaking, adding more support poles, redecking, etc. A couple of weeks definitely makes it sound more like the original story that they are redoing the floors to prevent slip hazards.....

I agree - you can't tell me they didn't consider the fact that many would stop and watch the fireworks from the bridge. There's no way it wasn't designed to bear the weight of a lot of spectators. I would imagine code would stipulate how many people the bridge should accommodate, anyway.

Checked in to BLT today. I asked 2 different CM's about the bridge. One was Concierge at the Contemporary, and the other was a man who seemed to be supervising the work on the bridge. They both told me that they are resurfacing the walkway, and are expected to be done Wednesday of this week.
We will be here until next Monday, so I will update again when it is open!

We had breakfast at Chef Mickeys on Monday August 15th and it was still closed...nice big sign posted HTH

Yes, that is correct, minimum design loads required by the building code account for people gathering on a pedestrian bridge (I am a structural engineer). A structural problem would close the bridge for longer than two weeks. Resurfacing makes much more sense. :)

My husband called the resort and they said it was finished yesterday.

Anyone who is there now confirm this?
