Our first DVC points stay is booked at BLT! :)
We arrive over Columbus Day weekend (October 2011).

By calling at 11:30 AM when my 11 month window opened, I was able to snag a Std View 2BR Lockoff for the first four nights. I am really hoping my waitlist for a dedicated 2BR comes through. What do you thnk the chances are?

By calling at exactly 9:00 AM a few days later, I was able to book a Lake View Grand Villa for the last three nights! So excited about this! :dance3:

This will be our first time in the World during the fall months. We're a party of 5 adults and three boys (4yo and twin 2yos). We plan to check out the Food & Wine Festival and Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Any tips or advice about these? Anything else we should not miss? What should we expect crowd-wise?

You will love BLT... in addition to TOTWL, you can watch fireworks from one of the upper floor elevator lobbies.

Thay have nightly movies between the Contemporary pool and skybridge.

We had a cash ressie at BLT this summer (prior to buying in to DVC) and ended up on the 12th floor. I agree that the elevator lobby on our floor was a great place to view the fireworks from!

Thanks for the link to the movie schedule!

standard view is only 1-5 floors
it looks like a dedicated standard 2-bedroom is only on floors 1 and 2.
so you could get a better view with a lock off.

now you might get the dedicated- if you still want one.

the crowds for Columbus day will be bad - but think after that it is okay. no guarantees.

Thanks for the reply.

Because of the ages of the boys and the make-up of our travel party, the single entrance and extra "real" bed in the dedicated 2BR would trump the potential better view from a lock-off. So, definitely keeping hope that the wait list comes through!

Columbus Day is the Monday right? (We're from Canada; our Thanksgiving is that Monday.)

Can you qualify "bad crowds" on Columbus Day? Are you talking Easter/Christmas bad? mid-July to early-August bad? or something else entirely? Also, would this apply to the whole weekend, or just the Monday?

In terms of parks, which one(s) would you think would be the best to attempt on the Sunday and Monday of that weekend?
