I need to blow off a little steam...we got home last Friday from a 10 day trip to disney!

Here are some of my pet peeves and some things that had me smoking ;(

One of my big things is if you see someone that is using a cane and moving slow don't try to beat them to the door or to be next in line.

I wish I had a dime for everytime someone did this to me....I could afford many, many more trips to disney :)

Talk to me not to my son. I'm not stupid!

Remember my ECV is my legs, don't sit on the arms, lean against the back, or stand your kids on the back. Don't crowd so close that I can't even sit comfortable in my seat without my head being in your stomach or chest. (Respect my space!)

Don't make snide remarks about how you wish you could ride around all day. Believe me after being confined most of the time to either an ECV or chair I understand why little kids get frustrated in crowds.

Don't think I get on a ride first because of the wheels. Many times I have to go to another room and you are getting off the ride before I'm on.

And, to Disney please make sure that all the doors that lead to main areas are handicap accessable. Watch out for CBR doors going into Old Port Royale, none of them are handicap accessiable. You have to pull up to the door grab the handle, back up a little and hope your arms are long enough to hold open and drive at the same time :(

I will not go back to CBR, from now on All Star Movies or the Poly. Both are much, much more ECV friendly.

How true! I understnad many of your observations/comments.

Now if I am not in the ECV & I walk ahead of you to the door, it is so I can open it & hold it open for you :).

As for the resort ... I noticed on my trip to OKW in May that they added one of the automatic door openers - the kind where you push the large silver button - to the entrance to the front desk. A front desk CM said they will be adding another one across the way to get into Olivia's & the General Store. I will say though that the few times I was in that area of OKW & my party was not with me, there were many kind guests who offered to open doors, hold doors, etc.

I always appreciate this, but these were folks that thought by getting in front of myself and my son they were going to save so much time. I'm sure you have ran into folks like that :(

I had many wonderful experiences with other guests holding the door....but I like to be independent :) Kind of like a toddler, by myself :) I guess I need to learn to chill out and not be so independent :)

You're preaching to the choir here. I think this should be posted on the Theme Parks Board. Education of the general public is a must. Some folks just don't know.

I know I'm preaching to the choir :) But, sometimes it makes you feel better!

In my opinion I could post this on theme parks board and expect to need a flame proof suit :) I could be wrong but, I think it would still get a little warm.

I wouldn't want you to get burned! But ... someone has to take one for the team! LOL
I was thinking more of a FYI type of posting. As: FYI- the w/c patrons you see being let in an alternate door may have to wait twice as long as those in the regular line. FYI - waiting in a less stimulating area will help a child with autism better cope the excitement of the attraction.
FYI- if you sit on the arm of my ECV I may bite you! Oh no I didn't mean that.

LOL! I may bite you :) Thanks for a wonderful laugh on a day with much pain.

I may post the FYI tonight :) Depends on how I feel when I get home. I wish the cold fronts would stop coming through I'm tired of hurting :(

Oh sneezy I hear you honey! Can I add when my son in having a full blown tantrum he is not being a spoiled brat. He is on sensory overload and trying to cope the best he can. Please don't assume "he should know better".

Have to add... the last time we went, on the last day or so of the trip, one foot and lower leg were black from bruising dripping down (an infrequent problem associated with my bone issue). It *really* annoyed me that people were noticiably more helpful/nice (e.g., getting their kids not to run in front of the ECV, holding doors, etc.) when I had something going on that they could see.

Re the thought of letting people know that mobility assistance has its pros and cons, I remember a thread some time back from a person who was not used to using a wc and posted about the experience of suddenly not being able to walk and having to deal with many of the things Sneezy mentioned.

On the topic of people surging in front of me and slamming doors in my face, I have to nominate the walk in the AK by the safari (forget its name). I was there by myself and by the time I made my way thru, I was ready to leave the park for the day. I must have looked noticably upset (and this must not be an infrequent issue) bc a CM came up to me and told me to avoid nature walks until the late afternoon and to instead go to shows.
