Ever wonder what it is like day to day "up-front" on the bridge for the captain? I found this Blog from the current captain of the HAL ship VEENDAM.

http://www.avidcruiser.com/albert/

He does not discuss company policy but the day to day activities of what it takes to get a ship in and out of the various ports. It is fascinating reading.

Hope you enjoy it as well.

I'll be on the Veendam this summer to Alaska. Unfortunately, Captain Albert is going on vacation when the cruise before mine ends. :(

Thanks for the link! We sailed on the Veendam with Capt. Schoonderbeek in November of 2007. Great Ship and Crew!!!

I am digging all the technical details of getting in and out of the ports. I have been reading it back to the beginning.

I'm concentrating on the Alaska cruise that began on the 16th, since that's the itinerary we'll be sailing.
