If I get a new phone will my blocked numbers transfer to the new phone? Anyone with real world practical experience?

And yes I did google and got conflicting information. So that is why I am asking for real world experiences.

If you are setting up your new phone from scratch, they will not be blocked.

If you are setting up your new phone using a backup of your old phone, they will be blocked.

If you are setting up your new phone directly from your old phone (either wireless or via wired connection), they will be blocked.

Basically, if you are using the settings of your old phone to set up your new one, all of your previous settings should transfer to the new device (assuming the new device supports them) including blocked numbers. I usually set mine up as a new phone, but when I bought my last new phone they did the setup in the store from my old phone to the new and everything transferred.

As long as you have not expressly turned off iCloud for Phone & Facetime and iCloud Messages in Settings on the old phone, blocked numbers will transfer to a new phone as soon as you login to that icloud account on the new phone.

Thank you. I assumed they would transfer over, just like everything else but I was just talking to a friend about blocking a number and I wondered if the numbers I have blocked would still be blocked if/when I got a new phone.

This is good to know because I have a couple numbers blocked and need to upgrade my phone. I always start from scratch and did not even know you could transfer over. That is way better and would make things a lot easier.

I’m glad to hear my blocked numbers will transfer - I need a new phone more sooner than later. The second I hang up with a spam call, I immediately block it. I don’t have any numbers blocked from actual people I know.

The problem with blocking spam callers is, they just call from a different number. So it doesn’t really help.
