Our first official blizzard of the year- started early this morning and we're expected to get almost 2 feet by midnight- ugh... living in northern Minnesota I guess we should be used to this but ugh....

Two feet, :crazy2: We have snow forecasted in NW Vermont from Sunday night in to Monday but only a couple of inches :magnify: Have had the snow blower ready since mid October. We usually and did get our first snow on Halloween but just a dusting. We now temps are going to drop into the freezing range when they clean out the back shop at work to park 10 mixers and 3 pump trucks, and they are packing them in there starting tonight!

Oh man, you can keep the blizzard, unless it is the DQ type. We are forecast a couple inches here in NEPA. See what we get since today it was 64 degrees here today.

Just cold here the next few days. You can keep the white stuff up north please.

Um huh,

I'll take my deep south humidity and typically snow free environment any day.

On that note, you guys be safe.

Honestly- some days I do wonder why we live here..... Other than growing up here and having family here, of course.... :) But even amidst the blizzard- there are glimpses of the beauty. There are those things that make us stay- things that make us love it here  Seeing so many people just helping random strangers- pulling them out of ditches- offering to plow out a driveway for someone who has no plow... my children playing outside in the dark for 2 hours building a snow fort and actually getting along... Christmas lights popping up outside literally overnight.... and tomorrow I will try to post some pictures that will show what makes the plowing, shoveling, and freezing to death all worth it....:flower1:

We were actually talking about you today, Tiggerdad :) Drove thru this stuff to get to town, counting at least 3 accidents in that 10 miles stretch that took us almost an hour to drive, and we were remembering our conversation with you about the snowmobiles and Cotton LOL And believe me- even the snowmobiles weren't out today, but they sure will be tomorrow! :flower:

We will let you keep that snow up north, serenitygr. I saw the local news and they were showing how much our northern neighbors to the west were getting. The first snowstorm is always fun, then quickly sours to all the work that has to get done. Stay safe, enjoy God's refreshing landscaping tool, and happy shoveling. How dare we get snow, it has been a warm beautiful fall for us in the upper Midwest. 72 high yesterday, woke up to 55 this morning, and now the howling winds remind us what is close by. Good luck clearing driveways, sidewalks, decks, etc.

Yikes! In the 70's down here! Heard about the blizzard as my nephew/family live there - said there was no school - must have been bad!! :)

serenitygr, pictures of the snow please?

I saw bits and pieces of ESPN Gameday this morning and they were on the campus of Western Michigan University. It was snowing pretty good behind them their outdoor set and everyone was in heavy coats, stocking camps, and gloves.

We woke up to damp streets so it must have rained overnight (but still it's not enough - it had been nearly 60 days since we had rain and we are in extreme drought conditions). The high in central Alabama yesterday was 78F but with the front that brought the rain the low tonight will be 33F.

Hi serinityg: I live in N. Mn. too, but we got about a foot with drifting. It was so heavy, the snow broke a lot of branches on the trees. It was incredibly beautiful, though. I just tried to get a photo of the sun shining through a maple tree with snow on the branches and the ice looking like thousands of twinkle lights. I hope it comes out good. We love living here too, though my southern family doesn't understand it. There's so much to do with ice fishing, hockey, snowmobile riding, cross country skiing, and my favorite, sitting by the fire and watching the snow fall while comfy in my house:) A lot of the locals like winter much better than summer.

I drove past a billboard on the way to work advertising air fare on a small commuter airline that flies out of an airport they built here, but haven't really used. (long story from an era when St Louis was a huge hub airport)

It was advertising StL to Destin/FW airport for $51. Obviously each way, right? Well, I didn't find the $51 trip, but I did find a round trip of $78 for mid-December. Destin may not be hot this time of year, but it isn't a blizzard or 40 degrees with 25 mph winds like we had here today. Now I just have to justify the $200/night for a hotel and a car. I'm thinking a long weekend (airline only flies on Thursday and Sunday) to the beach may be in order.

It's not Minnesota, but has been snowing here for the last two hours. Expecting 2-3 inches tonight and another inch tomorrow in NW VT.

Treat yourself and DW, Jim. Call it an early Christmas present to each other.

My weather app issued us freeze warnings here in MS due to the potential for lows near 28.

Of course, for most of you that's a heatwave...

We ended up with about an inch of the white stuff. Saturday started of getting up to the 70's (DW had clothes drying on the line) and then by early evening, grey skies.... Cold air, snow, sleet and Freezing rain. No accumulation on the the pavement, but grass, cars, trees, etc... about an inch.

I like the snow, I just don't like the COLD, and more particularly, the WIND. As I sit here in my office, i can hear the wind whipping around outside. Yup.... I know I don't like the wind.

Got a total of 5 inches from Sunday into today, and is still snowing but not as much. Seen 3 cars of the road on my way to and from work. People just forget how to drive in the snow. 27 degrees now.

It's all good now though.... We leave after work/school today. Planning for 4PM, hoping for 4:30PM, expecting 5 (or even 5:30).

No worries though..... After all, we are going to the Fort, right?

I will think of all those folks back in the cold, rain, wind and even snow. Hope we don't encounter it down there. :)
