Blizzard Beach vs. Typhoon Lagoon

Hi everyone! Staying at POR end of August/ beginning of September (8 nights). We weren't planning to do a waterpark, but since we got free dining (and I don't really see us using park hoppers as much), I guess we will now!

Which would you choose and why? Travelling with a 7 year old who is 46 inches (will probably be 47 or so by then) and a pretty weak swimmer for her age (but will probably resist wearing a life vest except if going down a slide etc.).

Thanks!

Both are amazing. My kids have always liked the Water Parks even more than the theme parks. We prefer Blizzard Beach, but many like TL better.

For your child's age, there is an awesome area at Blizzard Beach called Ski Patrol Training Camp that's super fun. Also, she'd probably be better off in the BB wave pool because it's much tamer than the one at TL. Lastly, the family raft ride at BB is incredible. 1000x better than the one at TL.

Enjoy!

Also, if you search this forum you'll see that this topic comes up quite a bit. Look for one with a lot of replies and read to see which tips make the most sense for your family. Before our first family trip to a WP (my kids were 5 and 7 at the time), I read a ton and thought we'd prefer TL. I was wrong!

We prefer TL. We love waves at the wave pool at TL over BB. We didn't like BB at all, too much tube carrying and climbing. I found it way too exhausting. Whereas TL is more chilled out.

My son and I don't go crazy for too many slides though. All depends on what your DD likes.

We went to both last October. 10 people , 3 kids 7,4 and 21 months. We all preferred blizzard beach. Especially with a 7 year old, the "older kids" section is great! They loooved the zip line

We just went to both last week with two almost 7-year-olds. Blizzard Beach was far and away their favorite over typhoon lagoon. They loved the ski patrol and the family slide. They found the TL wave pool to be too much (and they are used to MD/NJ shore waves). BB had a nice mix of tube and body slides too.

I loved the massive waves at the TL wave pool, but my 6 and 9 yo kids hated it, and they are very confident swimmers. The most unique thing at BB was the ski lift to avoid all the stairs climbing to the top of the slides over and over. Kids liked the slides and play areas at BB and adults liked the big family raft ride. Overall, we had more fun at BB.

Blizzard Beach all the way. I seem to recall a 48" minimum height for Crushin Gusher which is far & away the best ride at Typhoon Lagoon. Eliminate that from the equation & we wouldn't bother with TL. And after getting pounded by the waves once or twice, we'd all had our fill of the TL wave pool (actually spent WAY more time in BB's more "pedestrian" wave pool).
