Blizzard Beach Secret?

Hello everyone!! I just found this today on affordabledisney.com or something like that:

Blizzard Beach Medal: First ones to arrive at WDW's Blizzard Beach are declared "First Family" and "Ski Captains of the Day." Ski Captains can enter the park 30 minutes early, receive a medal, a free refillable mug, free towels, free locker and a covered cabana.

Samantha writes:

"I love all your emails because I'm such a "Disney Nerd" and they are so informative. My favorite tip was the one about being the first family at Blizzard Beach!!! While I was in Disney World this July my dad, sister and I all woke up at 6:45 to try and be the "Ski Captains for the Day"!! We left our hotel (The Boardwalk Inn) with breakfast for the bakery and headed to Blizzard Beach...our effort was successful we were the ski captain for the day. Not only were we the first ones in the park and got to go on Summit Plummet twice without any wait, we received: free refillable mugs, towels, our only special shaded spot on the beach, medals and even got to bypass a few lines throughout the day!! [Those were] memorable and fun days that we owe to you!! Thanks and keep up the good work.



Has anyone heard of this? Or been the first family? Are they still doing this?

I'm not sure if this is true, but they do have someone come down on Summit Plummet at 9am to officially open the park.

I did BB solo Fri AM while DW & DD slept. Got to the park around 8:40 and made my way up to the rope. As soon as she dropped the rope, I ran all the way up the path and was 2nd one down. Well actually I was a little winded so #1 made his way back up and went down again. I got to go a second time but by 9:15, there was probably a 30 minute wait.

Got a nice baseball size bruise on my calf and bruises on my buns too, but it sure was fun.
