I was eating lunch and everything was going fine when all of a sudden I felt this bumpy painful place on my bottom lip. It looks just like a small blister.

How do you get a blister on your lip from eating a ham sandwich?

The ham sandwhich doesn't cause them (obviously). It'll eventually go away. If it gets bigger try this stuff called Carmex (I believe that's what it's called).

I usually get one every year, and I noticed that I get them when I've been sick in the stomach. My friends normally give me a hard time saying I have herpees and what have you

I don't think I've ever gotten a blister on my lip from eathing anything. Even when I burned myself with something hot it's been the inside of my mouth not my lip. Sounds painful though, hope it heals quickly.

Sounds like a "fever blister" or "cold sore".

The first time I got one was in high school, probably 22 years ago and I still get them once or twice a year. Experience tells me that they are brought on by extreme fatigue or stress or a prolonged cold.

Being fairly vain, I'm always mortified to feel one coming on! There are many products, like Carmex which was already mentioned, that relieve discomfort and claim to reduce duration. I haven't found anything that prevents an ugly scab from forming on my lip after the "blister" has dried up.

Also, cold sores are contagious. Don't share a cup with (or kiss!) anyone unless you're sure you don't have a cold sore!

Sorry if that's TMI!

i have a fever blister on my lip right now, they ARE a form of the herpes virus. They do hurt, but I put vitamin E on them, and they go away much quicker.

Sounds like a fever blister to me. If it is might I suggest getting a presciption for Zovirax. It probably won't help w/ this one but if there's one there is usually another one in your future.

Well I am confused now. I do get the canker sores (in fact lucky me has one now in addition to this blister thing) but I have never had a cold sore before. I always thought those were more on the outside edges of your lips and that they got real red. This just doesn't look like what I would consider to be a fever blister.

Thanks for the help!

If the sore is on the outer part of the lip, and gets all crusty, not really red, its probably a fever blister, were you in the sun alot recently? The sun draws them out alot, an antiviral drug does help prevent future outbreaks, and make sure you put sun screen and chapstick on when you are in the sun for long periods of time.

Don't kiss nathan whatever you do. When my son was 9 months old someone with a cold sore kissed him no less near the lips and he got sores all in his mouth. I almost died when I took my son to the docotrs and he said he had herpees. talk about sick to my stomach. hope you fell better and it clears up soon:D

blisters on lips stops even the most attractive people from being kissed

Did you have tomatoes on your ham sandwich? The acid might've caused the blister to get irritated enough to pop out.

Cold sores are a form of herpes, but so is chicken pox.

I did have tomatoes on my sandwich..hmmmm!

I am still confused but I guess that is OK. It is not really painful now and it is just a small reddish bump. I probably should have also mentioned that I have braces and now I am wondering if I just moved my mouth the wrong way or something and one of the brackets rubbed and formed a blister.

I did end up kissing DS on the top of his head and on his cheek...I hope that was OK.
