"Blinded by the Light"...what the heck is this song about?

just heard this on the radio again....and can't help but wonder what in the world is this song about.....and what are they wrapping up in the middle of the night....tell me I'm hearing this wrong.

I'm referring to the Manfred Mann song.

Bruce Springsteen actually wrote the song but it flopped. Manfred Manns' version hit #1.
