Ooh, that's smooth. That makes ya sit up and notice, doesn't it?
My mom and dad's first date (teenagers) involved my dad standing her up. She always said she should have known...alas, he looked like James Dean so she gave him too many chances!
Lastly...I had a blind date with someone who lived in my apartment complex. He was 21 or 22 and I was 23ish (it felt like a HUGE age gap at the time), and he came to my door, sat down, looked at my bookcase and said "wow, you must be really smart" b/c I had books. We went somewhere to eat, then he wanted ice cream on top of whatever huge meal we had, then he told me about the guns he had in his trunk (he was a cop), then took me way out in the woods to show me where he grew up (but his parents didn't live there anymore so we were almost trespassing and definitely creeping out the people who DID live there as we idled at their driveway). Finally he took me back to the complex, insisted I come up to meet his roommate. His roomie was "entertaining" and we were NOT welcome, but my date was oblivious. He was also oblivious to my discomfort as he took that opportunity to clean his handguns in the living room.
I finally convinced him that I HAD TO GO, because I had an early morning class (true, though I can't remember if it was a weekend which meant it was an exercise class or if it was a weekday which meant it was an academic class), I walked to my apartment and got ready for bed. Got in bed, got comfy, closed my eyes, the phone rang. I got up out of bed, turned on a light, answered the phone, and he said, nastily, "I thought you were going to bed".
The next day I called the friend who had set us up, told her it wasn't going to work, then told all my classmates his full name and what precinct he worked for, just in case.
And the following week I was pulled over and given a ticket.
I will never know if it was a crony of his...it was a righteous ticket (let's just say I'm glad I had just left the 55 zone and was in the 65 zone or it would have been bad) but BAD timing.
However, I was glad for it to just be a ticket, after the gun stuff and strange possessiveness during the date.
