Well friends, it's probably been a DECADE, but I was one of the original DIS Charter Members from 1997…back when it was one long 'thread'/conversation! I had the WDWDVC vanity license plate for many years in my home state and WDW and DVC were a HUGE part of my and my children's' lives from 1996 til our last trip together in 2009, and gave us MANY Magical memories to cherish for a lifetime. Now, all grown-up with one in the Navy, often abroad and the other very busy as a grad student at Columbia and living in NYC, the opportunities to utilize my 610 annual points have been steadily dwindling, and are now really nonexistent. I've been putting off the inevitable, but am now finally ready to let it go and sell. I know nothing about the entire procedure, process, options, and something I vaguely remember as Disney's "first right of refusal"(?) Is there a tutorial somewhere or comprehensive walk-through, or FAQ somewhere for someone like me? I own at WLV, AKL, Y&BC, and Saratoga Springs. I own the bulk of the points at WLV, but as i recall that contract ends before the other three properties. All properties are owned and paid in full. The annual dues are killing me at $311/month for something I can no longer use. I have always used the site for the best advice when needed, and am really hoping for some solid guidance/advice on this one. I literally have no idea what any of the memberships at the four properties are worth, and don't want to get ripped off, or make the mistake of turning to the wrong place. Renting the points is an option i considered carefully, and have chosen not to pursue for various reasons. Thank you in advance for any and all help/advice, it is as deeply and truly appreciated as it is needed!

Take a look at a couple of brokers websites to see what things are looking like and then call and talk to someone who will guide you thru the process.

One of the board sponsors is The Timeshare Store whom I've used to both buy and sell.

And a couple other brokers:

I haven't used the last broker, they are newer, but reports seem ok.

It's nice that you got a lot of enjoyment out of your membership! Now is a good time to sell - prices are the highest they've been. For a little info - your VWL and BC contracts both expire in 2042 - but especially with BCV it has made little difference. It is selling for more than your AKV (which expires in 2057) and your SSR (which expires in 2054). VWL will likely sell for more than them too.

Also, should you have any wish to keep a contract or two there are rental brokers that make it very easy to rent out your points and more than cover your maintenance fees.

But, as I mentioned, if you feel the time has come to let them all go prices are high.

OMGosh - thanks SOOO much for ALL the info - One more question: I bought the VWL in 1999 - I'm on the road and don't have access to my contracts -- for some reason i thought it expired in 2030? is that possible? I could be wrong, but for some reason i thought VWL was 2030 and the rest were 2050?

You're welcome!

VWL is 2042. DVC used the same expiration for OKW, VB, HHI, BWV, VWL and BCV. After that they started having 50 year expirations from the time the resort opened. SSR is 2054, AKV 2057, BLT and VGC 2060 and so on.

Today's market is pretty hot, so the good news is that your contracts will net you a premium!

Sad that you're selling, but 610 points is a lot (and $3600/yr in dues for something you don't use isn't really the best use of your monies).

Here are the prices of contracts sold for disboards posters from the end of last year-- this should help. Note that the prices might be lower bc of the nature of the posters (buyers who post on this site-- generally those looking for a better bargain), but it should give you a place to begin when pricing out the value of your contracts:

Good luck :)

I just closed on a resale and read the settlement statement this morning. It appears that the seller paid 10% commission to the broker.

There are a couple of brokers charging less than 10%. I recently sold a contract through dvcresalemarket.com because they charged a lower commission. Their service was excellent at every stage in the process. I appreciated their advice on setting my listing price and their communication throughout the process was exceptional. I had an offer within a couple of hours of the contract appearing on their website. The only negative was the title company they worked with on my contract. It took twice as long as it should have to get the closing documents.

I have also done business with The Timeshare Store but that was as a buyer. I liked them too but there was an issue with one of the documents they generated that I never could manage to get them to fix. It was minor so in the end I just let it go. Other than that, things went well.

If I sell another contract I will probably go back to dvcresalemarket.com because of the lower commission, excellent communication and and how efficient they were.

And I just saw another broker who has a listing special of 7%. I believe they were ones that used to work for Fidelity but struck out on their own a couple of years ago.

dvcmagicresales.com

I've noticed various special listing prices that will pop up now and then with most brokers.

Thanks for posting that. I knew there was another broker charging less than 10% and couldn't remember who it was.

Thanks everyone for all your help and info - i had no idea where to start but knew i could count on the DIS Boards! :D
