Hi there,

Just back from our first trip to Vero. We loved the pool yet I was really surprised to find that when I went to purchase a micky rice crispy treat and an ice cream from Bleachers (the pool side kiosk), the cast member specificically pointed out that tips were to be noted on my receipt (charging to my room). I appreciate that they would expect tips for alcoholic drinks , pool side service etc, but I was surpirsed that they would ask for tips when a guest just walks up to purchase an ice-cream or snack? Am I missing something here? I tip for luggage (all handlers), magical express, mousekeeping etc - I just did not feel that the way these guys (at Bleachers)explicitly stated where I needed to note their tip for giving me a micky rice crispy treat was part of the Disney magic I am used too:coffee:

Gee, I really want to hear from others about this one. I've always considered us to be good tippers, but would have never thought of this one ..... but I've never been to Vero.

Maybe it's just like the "tip jars" that are becoming more common when I pick up pizza or sandwiches at the local deli. I haven't gotten used to tipping in these places and when I do tip, it's a very small amount. Perhaps I'm showing my age.

I was a tipped employee for years. I would NEVER tip someone for reaching into a cooler and handing me a Mickey Head Bar. How dare they suggest you tip them. I hope you mentioned it to guest services.

I am totally surprised by this. We have been to VB many times and I have never had a CM even indicate their desire for a tip (we never use bell services either). In fact I have had a CM say no thanks....

The way this is worded (sounds) like a crack down on pocketing and not reporting tips. If this is the case though, there should just be a sign there saying please note all tips on your receipts. I hope this is the case. I think it might be worth emailing VB management to clear it up one way or the other.

Several years ago we tried to tip at the Turtle Pond Shack at OKW and were told that DVC didn't allow it. We only bought drinks at the pool at VB and we tipped but were not instructed to do so.

I've always gotten the reciepts that include a place for a tip at the pool bars - both at DVC and non-DVC resorts. I usually tip a dollar @ CS places whenever there's a tip jar or place to tip on the reciept. I used to not tip at CS-type places, but then I had a good friend work at an ice cream shop over the summer and her tips were what kept her above minimum wage. She was a great person, a college student, and she needed a short term summer job. It made me realize that lots of people who work those types of jobs are not doing it for "fun money", but are actually paying bills and etc. I appreciate being able to go to the local ice cream/coffee shop, and I appreciate the CMs at Disney, and somebody has to work the non-glamorous jobs. I figure that tipping 1$ at pool bars might add 10$ total to my entire vacation, a small price for good karma. :hippie:

I do think it was tacky for the CM to point it out to you. pirate: I think a better tactic for them would simply be to be very friendly and helpful, and I bet they'd get tipped pretty regularly.
