Bleached hair question

I'm getting my hair bleached / dyed close to white (blonde) soon, and I'm wondering if after I do, should I try to wash my hair less. I know having it dyed can take some of the natural oils out, so thats my train of thought. Anyone else have their hair dyed white blonde??

Just to add I'm not getting it paper white, but a white blonde rather than a golden blonde.

My daughter does. She's in cosmetology school. She has experimented with every color you can imagine. I never thought she'd go blonde but when she did she really did! Anyway she no longer washer her hair everyday. I think she washes it about every other day.

Waaaay back, my hair was platinum blonde... and let me just tell you, it is really hard to maintain, not to mention the fact that it just kills your hair. It's hard to describe, but after bleaching, when your hair is wet, it feels kinda... well, slimy  It was pretty gross.

I don't expect to change your mind, just wanted to share my experience! :goodvibes

All that said - I would wash it less, but condition it more. It'll need it, for sure! Good luck.

If you have dark blonde hair naturally, and dye it platinum, how often do you think you should get the roots done? I heard that adult hair grows something like 1/2 inch a month, so that means I need to get it done every month?!?

I think it really depends on how quick your hair grows. Mine grows pretty fast, and is naturally dark brown, so when I was doing the platinum thing, I was doing my roots every 2 weeks. Like I said - the upkeep is rough!

Just one more question.... When you got the roots done, did it all match up well? I don't want it to look wierd or freekie or anything like that!!!!

TIA

ETA - I will be going to a stylist for all this. I would never attempt to do it myself!!!! LOL

It matched pretty well, though the roots always seemed a tiny bit darker than the rest of my hair, even if just by one shade. Probably no one else noticed that -- but I tend to notice things about myself that no one else would ever see ;)

I had it done from when I was in my 20's. I had to have it touched up about every 3 weeks. ( I can not stand seeing the roots ) That being said it does age you to have light blond hair.

When I had blond hair, I had to have the roots touched up every 3 weeks. Also, if I tried to make it to platinum blond, I'd have myself a chemical haircut.

What??? No, don't tell me that! I've always heard as you age you should go lighter because DARK hair is aging. Consequently, I've just had my hair highlighted. I kind of like it for a change, but I certainly don't need to look any older. Also, I'm not very objective about this kind of thing, so I guess I need to ask someone, but I can't image anyone being honest with me about this.

My daughter was a platinum blonde for a while.
She still washed her hair everyday.
And she had to have her roots touched up about every 2-3 weeks.
She got bored with that pretty quick, and decided to go darker after about just 6 months

I used to have nearly white hair when I was in my 20's. One thing I had to do on a frequent basis (besides retouching the roots) was to use Fancifull rinse on the bangs. Just riding in a car on a sunny day would turn the bangs a yellowish color while the rest of my hair was a beautiful clean white color. The rinse took the yellow away instantly. :thumbsup2

Thanks for your replys guys. I really want to do it, but I really DON'T want to have to get it the roots done every 3 weeks. Maybe every 4-5 weeks, but no more than that. At $55 each time, it will cost way to much!!!
I'm going next Friday, so I'll talk to him about it when I go. I may also need to get a trim.... Oy this is gona cost a lot!!! LOL

Then go for highlights. You can still have blond hair, the roots just wont be so noticeable.

I am talking about platinum blond hair. I have green eyes and a fair complection and it washed me out. I then went to blond highlights and loved it.

I have highlights now. You could barely tell he had done anything. He did a fairly light one too, I don't know what went wrong or what. I really do want the platinum blonde hair, I just don't know how long I can afford to keep it up!! LOL I have a call into my stylist now, and I will see what he says.

Every 4 to 5 weeks just won't be enough. Honestly, it's not worth the damage you'll do to your hair (and your wallet!). A PP recommended highlights -- that's really probably the best idea.

So you want to bleach your hair and have it done by the same guy that couldn't do your highlights correctly?

Find a new stylist and stick with highlights.

No no, he does do a very good job. I think it was just that I was HOPING for more than you can get from just highlights, KWIM? I've been with him for about 5+ years now, and he also does my mother and sisters hair. I totally trust him. As I said, I think I was just expecting to much from highlights... but then again I'm not a stylist, so what do I know!

What about adding some lowlights or doing multiple shades of blond? I have naturally medium brown hair, and when I want a more normal look (currently my hair is black, fuchsia & purple), I used to get caramel highlights with auburn streaks. I find that I can go longer between touch-ups if I go with streaks rather than all over color. (Though more colors does equal more expensive.)
