I have a Deluxe Season Pass but the Saturdays are all blacked out, where do I purchase the blackout ticket?
Do I have to wait in those big lines? or can i just call?
Thanks!

As far as I know, you have to purchase your blockout ticket from the ticket booths. Remember to bring your AP with you, as they need to see it in order to sell you the block out ticket.

And you can only do it on that day, not earlier.

You can also purchase blockout day tickets at the Front Desk of any of the Disney hotels. Same rules apply, though - you can only purchase it on the day you are going to use it.

Also something interesting to note, when I recently purchased my Deluxe pass over the phone, the CM informed me that I could use this pass for one "blackout day" with no charge. Only if I would need it for more than one blackout day would I then have to pay the $40/day...

I know that you can activate/use any new annual pass even if it's a blockout day for that type of pass (so, for example, on any Saturday of the year you can use/activate a So Cal Select pass) - is that what you were referring to?

A friend recently told me she had heard this too from a coworker. I told her she was nuts, you don't get one "freebie" blackout day per AP. But has something changed? I can't imagine Disney is suddenly not going to charge for one free blackout day use per AP... right? :confused3

I have a Premium AP, but my kids and DH have Deluxes- when we have used blackout days before, we bought them at the ticket booths same day, and never got one use free before...

I am wondering if the CM was confused, and meant that you can use the pass on it's initial use, on a blackout day.

Hey, if those CMs are right and it isn't the "first day" thing (which wouldn't make sense for someone buying over the phone...oh wait, it would, b/c you aren't buying an AP, you're buying a voucher, and that voucher will be activated once you get to the parks, and THAT would count under the "if you buy it on a blockout day it's OK" thing)...that's great for me!

I'll let y'all know on May 25th, when we get back to the hotel from the blocked out day. :)

Just a word of caution. I believe that you have to be staying at the hotels to purchase tickets there. I tried to buy a DL ticket, and was told that since I wasn't a guest, the CM could not sell me a ticket -- this is my experience with this.

I believe this is exactly it -- when you turn in your voucher you have to get "processed" in the parks so the blackout day would not apply. After you have activated your AP then the blackout days apply.

They do not give one free blackout to APs. I just had to pay for my 1st (and only) blackout day pass.

The CM was referring to the 1st day you use your new AP. The reason they do this is that you could buy a 1-day pass on a blackout and then upgrade to an AP before you leave. By allowing a new passholder to use their AP the very first time on a blackout day, they are just by-passing this scenario where you would have to wait in line twice the same day for the same result. They call it a "freebie" when really it's fall under their normal upgrade policy.

Okay I dont' get this at all- using your new ap on a blackout day. So, here' s my scenario. We are using regular hoppers on a Wed, Thurs and Fri. Then Friday while we are in the park since it will be the last day to use them we will upgrade. Saturday is a blackout day so we had planned on heading home. But.... if we can still get in since it will be the first day of our new ap's we might stay another night.

Can anyone tell me if this would work? Thanks!

No, that won't work. If Saturday was the last day of your parkhopper ticket and you were upgrading to an AP that day, then you'd be fine, even if the type of AP you were upgrading to is blocked out that day. But if you get your AP the day before, then your admission on Saturday is controlled by the type of AP you have, and if it's blocked out, then you can't get in (without purchasing a blockout day ticket).

You could upgrade to 4-day hoppers at the beginning of your trip, then upgrade to an AP on Saturday. You would be entering on Saturday with a PH, so the blackout day should not matter.

Maybe I am wrong, and you can't upgrade twice or something. I think it would work, though.
