Blackberry vs Droid???

Hello all,

I've had a Blackberry Curve for about the last 1 1/2 years and yesterday, out of no where, the screen went completely white with a small error code in the center. Needless to say, after an hour and a half on the phone with techinical support and 2 trips to the store, the phone is officially kaput.

So, time for a new phone. Wondering if I should go with another Blackberry, which I did love, or try the Droid??

I loved my blackberry, but next time I'm going Droid hands down. Blackberry just isn't keeping up.

I just got rid of my Curve because every other day something was going wrong with it. I have a new Droid X and WOW!!!! Droid all the way. This phone is SO easy to use, the screen is "huge". I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY like the virtual keyboard-way more then I though I would-again SUPER easy to use. The Apps are MUCH better, the software is MUCH better, DROID all the way!!!

I had a BB curve as well that I loved. I broke it towards the end of last year right before I was leaving town and had to buy something fast. Ended up with the droid. Love my droid as well but they are apples and oranges. Here are my pros and cons -
The droid has terrible battery life compared to my bb. NO COMPARISON.
The droid is bigger and heavier.
I find I can not type emails or text nearly as fast on my droid. And trying to do anything one handed with it is very difficult.
If you are getting it to use predominately as a (gasp!) phone getting used to the touch screens can be tricky. I call people all the time with out meaning to, hang up on them and even last week while I was talking to my husband and holding the phone with my shoulder against my face somehow accidentally conferenced the call and started called someone else from my address book all while i was talking to my hubby. I don't know how to conference call on my droid but somehow i did it with my face!
As far as cons the androids are basically like a tiny computer. Very fast. Can pull up any webpage directly from email. You can surf the internet all day long (well until your battery dies and I ususally can't get through a work day if I surf much). Want to get images from your phone to your computer? no problem! Just plug in the usb cable and drag the files over! So easy. Same with music. No fooling with itunes or any of that nonsence.

So I guess all in all you give up some but also get a lot in return. Hope that helps.

I went back and forth on this subject too!
I have had my curve for 2 years and was so comfortable with it, but it was falling apart.

I let my husband and son talk me into getting the droid x. Just recieved it on Tuesday and so far so good! I like it a lot, yes I am having some time issues with texting now, but its getting easier. The apps are wonderful. I really think you will be happy with it, give it a try you have 30 days and then if you can't adapt you can always exchange it for another blackberry.

Many thanks to all of you for your replies - I love the Dis!! I think I'm going to give the Droid a try and if it's not my cup of tea, I'll exchange it for another Blackberry. Hmmm... always thought I'd be a Blackberry girl. LOL!!

Another vote for the Droid. There are apps you can get to help prolong the life of the battery. Some of my best friends have the keyboarded version of the Droid if you are worried about typing. They told me the other day though that they are slowly developing to using the touch screen; so they don't really use the manual keyboard anymore, but it's there in case they need it.

My DH has the Droid X and loves it!!! The Verizon guys showed him how to save battery life(what to turn off), and he bought an extended battery. It really does make a difference!!

He's not much of a keyboard person, virtual or real, so he uses the speech to text all the time.

if its a droid vs BB droid wins 100%of the time (I hated my BB's when I had them), but i may be in minority but i love my iphone waaaaaaay more then the g1 I had or my wifes nexxus (both droid).

I just got rid of my Curve for the Droid Incredible. Not a day goes by that I don't say "I love my phone!"

I got an LG Ally after my BB Curve started acting up on me. Over all I prefer the Android system over the BB system. The speed and looks of the Android browser is much better than the BB. This of course means the battery life is less than with the BB but not by enough to cause too much of an issue (at least for me). I got about 3 more hours out of my BB than I do the Ally.

Unless you need a BB to push work email I'd go with the Droid

My battery life has gotten much better after upgrading to version 2.2 of android. I also have stopped using task killer & just let the OS do its thing.

DH and I have BB's but our sons have Droids. We got the BB's because that is what my work supported (those or IPhones but I did not want to switch to AT&T at the time). I like my BB but I love my kids' Droids. I'm looking forward to the day (over a year down the road) when my contract on the BB's runs out and my company finally (I hope!!!) supports the Droid applications!!! The Droids take awesome photos, too. No need to carry a camera with you when you go to WDW!
