I have a Blackberry Curve and am wondering if it will work well at WDW, if it can be tethered to my laptop for internet use and if anyone knows of costs associated for texts, roaming etc. Mostly just need to be able to access emails for work. I was in Ft. Lauderdale last October and wasn't able to receive emails, just texts.

My World edition worked fine all last week .. using the internet (via blackberry)was slow in the evening at the Pop, but I suspect I was competing with lots of people> Morning was fine. No idea on charges ...

Are you with Rogers or another carrier....or does it matter?

¢.03 per kilobyte. Average e-mail with text, no attachments or images is about 20 KB. Cost ¢.60. If you e-mail has an attachments that are 2 megs. 2000 x ¢.03 = $60.00
I believe you can only select to download the subject & who it is from and then decide to download the message.
Not a Blackberry owner but I know my friends who pay for their own Blackberry's turn off data roaming when outside of Canada.

More info a data rates and roaming from Rogers.

Maggie why does the phone need to be thethered to access your work e-mail. Isn't it pushed to you BB?
If on vacation why stay connected to the office.
Rogers link I supplied also has info on add on data plans

If you're looking at tethering then it would be cheaper to pay the $9.95 per day for the in-room internet access. Infinitely faster too.

Yes my mail is supposed to be pushed to my BB, but last year in Ft. Lauderdale it didn't for some reason. I could receive texts but not mail. We went on a cruise and didn't receive email there either, just texts. I'm going to call Rogers tomorrow when they open and find out what I need to do. I hadn't purchased a US roaming package for last trip...didn't know I needed one, but I'm thinking that's the answer?

It sounds like tethering is too expensive, and I only need to access the occasional work email. This is a vacation after all!

I just spoke with Blackberry tech support and they said that as you travel to a different area in the US you should remove your battery and re-install it when you get there. The support person I spoke with felt that this was why I didn't receive email the last time I was in FLA. Anyone else heard of this?

Odd advice, but if it takes care of your issues with recieving email on your BB might be worth a try.

I've heard of wrapping several towels around an XboX 360 to solve certian issues when you get the Red Ring of Death.

what about if you just use the messenger option? me and my husband both have BB and in Canada it's very cheap to messenger each other. I wonder if it's the same as the States

I never take mine across the boarder. The cost is too steep. We get a $40 package through Aliant for our regular cell, and just use that. But, I don't need e-mail. :goodvibes
