My 9 year old lost her tooth next the front teeth a couple of months ago. It hasn't come through yet. The other day I noticed the gum area above the empty spot is black or black and blueish. :confused3 I've never seen this before.

Now I do have a call into our dentist and he will call back later this afternoon when he's done seeing his patients. BUT, I can't wait!!!!! What could this be? If you've heard of this could it be black and blue from the new tooth getting ready to come in or do you think something is wrong? I'm dying for the dentist to call back because I'm a freak when it comes to teeth and I'm nervous there is something wrong with my dd's gums or new tooth. :scared:

It is most likely a bruise from either her tooth coming in or she has hit it while eating something hard or brushing her teeth. If it looks like what I think it does, I wouldn't worry too much, but of course, I haven't seen it.

My oldest had this when he was cutting those flat back teeth. It was nothing more than a mild hematoma caused by the tension of the skin stretched over those teeth. It was sore, so we used a little Orajel and some tylenol. It didn't keep him from eating and it didn't need any treatment. The black spot was "cured" once the skin was slightly breached by the crown of the tooth.
