Black rapid strap for DSLR cameras in the parks?

Hi! Do any of you use the black rapid strap to carry your DSLR in the parks? Does it help with the weight? Also, is it comfortable even if you are wearing a tank top or will the strap rub badly on your neck/shoulders? I am looking at getting one but there are so many different styles! I am a woman of average size who is 5'7". Can anyone recommend which style might be best for carrying it around Disney for 6 days? Thanks!

Yep.

Does it help with the weight? Hard to say - I always wore my Canon strap so it was slung to the side (similar to black rapid style) so it was on my shoulder as well. It wasn't as convenient as the BR but I didn't have neck issues with it that way.

I've got the BR Sport but I find the spare strap (to attach under your shoulder) to be more annoying than useful for casual carrying (like walking around DW) but it's a minor annoyance and otherwise I like it.

When I had my T4i the BR was awesome as I kept the camera on my right hand side and, to take a picture I could just grab the camera with my right hand, flick the camera on with the right thumb as I brought it up to my eye, line up the shot and then take the picture all with one hand! (I had a lens hood on)

I've got a 6D now with the power switch on the left hand side... grumble... ;)

Might also want to ask this in the photography forum (though I'm sure this will be moved there by the mods shortly!)

I have a CarrySpeed shoulder strap and that is the way to go.

I have to look at the one you're posting about, but I love my CarrySpeed.

I can tell you any shoulder sling type strap is definitely going to feel better and take the weight off of your neck, if you're using a neck strap now.

ETA... That actually looks really nice. I like the Cargo one with the all the places to store your phone and credit cards etc, memory cards.

The hook feature would make me nervous though. How it hooks on to the bottom of the camera... I would have to see that in person.

Can't say enough good things about this camera strap. I have the one cut for women, and I've worn it all day at the parks with no problem even on really hot days. :thumbsup2

Because it is cross-body, it's darn near impossible to wear a backpack with it. I usually wear a fanny pack but wanted to try something with a smaller profile. So, I got a small baggallini, pulled the shoulder strap to make it as small as possible, put it around my waist, and *ta-daa* a small hip bag which can hold the basics. (Don't know if you'll be travelling with a kid in a stroller, so that wouldn't be necessary, but I thought I'd through it out there.)

Thanks! Yes we will have a stroller, plus a backpack DH can wear on rides. I am 4 months pregnant so I won't be able to go on the bigger rides. I assume I will be able to wear the camera on most of the rides I am able to go on so there wouldn't be a need to bring a camera bag to put it in?

I wear my sling with my camera on almost every ride. Unless I know it's bumpy or one where you get wet. LOL Which sounds like you can't go on now anyway.

You just have to be aware of where it is and I always have a hand on it usually.

Congrats!

I carry a messenger style bag with me to put the camera in when I'm not actively using it (not as bulky as a backpack) - The only time I was in fear for my camera was with the water rides and space mountain and that's when I put it in the bag.

But, as you're pregnant, I don't think you'll have that problem. ;)

The only other concern I had with it was when walking through dense crowds or near obstacles (walls, street lights, etc) but then I only put a hand on it to keep it close to my hip or push it behind my back.

LOVE my Black Rapid strap in the parks. The wife doesn't really like it but she hardly carries the camera.

You should be fine without a camera bag. Being pregnant (congratulations!) takes a lot of the guesswork out of what rides the camera would be okay on. I have read here about people getting pretty wet on Pirates (we go to Disneyland more frequently and don't recall that being such an issue there), so you might want to bring a ziploc bag at the very least for that.

Same here. It's second nature to do that now. And it's easy enough to set in your lap for something like Small World. Have a fun trip!

I love my RS-Sport 2! I used it on my last two trips hauling a T2i one year, then a 6D the next. I found it made a significant difference in the amount of strain I felt, which was practically none with the strap.

Also note, I did have success using it with my daypack camera backpack, it's all in the order you put the straps on! I was able to wear both on to pretty much every ride. In fact, my 2012 trip was solo so I had them for literally every ride I went on (and I went on every ride you might consider problematic I believe!), but my 2013 trip included children that were happy to take the camera off my hands when I was on rides they didn't want to ride. I am pretty comfortable taking it on anything, I just tuck it between my legs to shield it on the coasters.

If you have specific concerns about a ride and how/if I took the camera on it, let me know and I will try to answer it. I highly recommend the strap though.

Space Mountain with your 6D. I'm sorely tempted to try for a front seat next trip and try to get photos (during the lighted portions, of course!)

I did front seat with the 6D tucked between the legs and the backpack on the floor in front of me multiple times, it worked out great, I didn't try to use it during the ride though, I was too busy holding my hands up and trying not to flinch! (For the record, I never make it the whole ride without retracting them at least once because this time, they really were going to hit!)
